Just wondering....how would they know what you said on a cell phone?

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Because they record all our conversations. Not only texts and emails they store.

Microsoft aims to teach poor children this dependency so they can smoke Windows for their whole lives. I don’t think governments or schools should support that aim.

Conversations aren't /routinely/ recorded, but that can be done fairly easily if they're looking at you for some reason. They can also be easily turned into bugs where they can eavesdrop on conversations not explicitly made through the phone. If I had a phone taken by a cop, and it left my sight at any time, I'd throw it out, and get a new phone. It couldn't be trusted after that.

That is what the Communists and Fascists tell their people too.

and I thought Americans were supposed to be FREE from all that watching.

The question is who watches the watchers?

Again this conspiracy fails the litmus test of what is the logically easiest way to do this. Getting 100's of manufacturers out there to install extra hardware that can be seen by a tech, many of those manufacturers overseas, would be extremely difficult for any entity, even a 1st world government to do. A more logical way to do this is to say make Microsoft include something in their software to do this. One stop shopping and since people outside of MS do not have access to the source it would be invisible. Granted that doesn't cover everything but MS is the largest OS on most computers by market share so it covers a lot. They would never get that to fly in Linux, but maybe could even get Apple to do it too. That would be the logical way to do something like this, and harder to detect and defeat than say some hardware chip. Also considering that most computers are on the internet at some point anyway, it would be even easier to develop a Trojan for this task as it looks like they already have done in the past to target Iranian Reactor Site computers.

I agree that this would clearly be seen on a computer motherboard or at least talked about by the people that create and assemble the hardware. There might be some truth about stuff like this installed on government motherboards to watch employee's but to be so blatant in public sector would be trouble. A couple months back I gave a Indian customer service agent full access to my work computer to help install CS6 and was amazed at how fast somebody could come in from anywhere and sweep my computer. The click and speed rate this guy was working at started to make me really nervous to thought of "he could of easily in a flash stolen anything he wanted" and maybe he did? Do not ever do this on your home computer. Hardware or Software- Big Brother will find a way.
