Pizza Hut may have discovered a new route to a man’s heart — through his nose.
The chain is releasing the limited-edition scent, which smells of “freshly baked, hand-tossed dough,” in response to an Internet joke that began last August.
According to a company news release, Pizza Hut Canada’s marketing firm, Grip Ltd., asked the chain’s Facebook fans what they would name a perfume that smelled like “a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened.” When the post went viral — earning more than 300 frenzied comments — they decided to make good on the gag. An aromachologist brewed 110 bottles of Eau de Pizza Hut, which the chain sent to 110 Facebook fans. The perfume commemorates Pizza Hut Canada reaching 100,000 Facebook fans, according to the news release.
The process was not always tasty, though, marketing director Beverly D’Cruz told the Global and Mail. “All of them were not fun,” she said. “Cheese. You’d think cheese smells nice. Not so.”
