    Post Your Story

Post your story on how you came to snus. Here is mine, I can’t wait to read others.

Now I came to snus after having a cigarette one morning, as I have for the last 30 years, I started coughing and hacking, and said that's it, I am done. On my way to work, I stopped by a specialty smoke shop and I saw the Oliver Twist chewing tobacco bits and figured I would buy some in case I had an urge to smoke. I was intrigued by the price $6.50 and did an online search to see if I could get them cheaper and there I ran across buysnus.com. The Oliver twist bits were cheaper but I was intrigued buy the snus. So the investigation into snus began. One day later, after researching snus at Wikipedia, I figured lets try it, so I placed my first order. Well, I anxiously awaited my order. I received my order and the first snus I tried was Skruf Stark los. My first impression was a little salty but nicotine delivery was incredible. Next was Ettan los, this was a taste I liked, Then the smorgasbord began. While there have disappointments and taste differences, I am happy I discovered snus. I had my last cigarette on June 17, 08. I have my lungs back and still enjoy the nicotine, which calms me all day. It is second nature now to toss in a portion and in the upper lip it goes(now that gets questioned by some who see that). My wife thinks I have a bit of an obsession, but I told her, I consider myself an enthusiast. I know I haven't tried all the snus flavors but I have come to gravitate towards Nick and Johnny Original, Skruf Stark, Knox, and Ettan. Snus has helped me to stay smoke free. I do not have to worry about going outside for a cigarette, or about passing second hand smoke to family or others nearby. I want to share my experience with others that use snus as well.

    Enjoying snus

I'm in grad school in Texas. On campus, people are really, REALLY stuck up about smokers. They either walk 20 yards around you while hacking as if your smoke has already given them cancer, or glare at you as they walk by.

I'm sad to say that eventually I was tired of being treated like a criminal for enjoying the benefits of moderate nicotine consumption.

I've always been aware of the health risks of smoking, also, so when I found out about snus, me and one of my buddies got really excited, since it would let us stop smoking and enjoy the nicotine with minimal health impact.

We were hanging out at his house, and I saw a flier for a free tin of Camel Snus - he didn't really know too much about it, so I hopped on Wikipedia and we were looking up this magical snuff called "snus" that's several centuries old at least and is imported from Sweden.

I did some research into which places were the best/cheapest and came across BuySnus.com and Notherner.com. So far I've just ordered from BuySnus (who's been great, by the way), but the transition is almost complete: I am not smoking, and I'm totally loving snus.

Now I can sneer at the anti-tobacco Nazis without them knowing a thing about the N&J portion that I've got going on...

About 20 years ago I quit smoking and got ulcerative colitis like many others who quit. Symptoms got easier to cope with over a long time and years later I moved to Japan for career reasons for 3 years and took up smoking again, which eliminated the symptoms of the condition overnight. After returning to Canada I found it really difficult to smoke, with the restrictions, especially at work. I was on a smokers' rights website and heard of snus. I ordered some last fall and the rest, as they say, is history. The snus helps the condition too, but not nearly as effectively as the cigs.

I hate typing, so here is the condensed version:

Used to be a regular at Camel's message board, heard about snus and was pointed to Camel's (crappy) snus message board, then in turn was pointed to this board. Made my first order at Buysnus...

Here is mine, that I posted in another forum. It is in Snus and Snus Acc. in "How did you learn of Snus".

After being completly addicted to American smokeless tobacco (Kodiak), I was looking for something different. I grew tired of 15 yrs of spit bottles, spilled spit bottles, kids drinking out of the spit bottles(by accident), carry spit bottles around in public, or looking for a plant or trash can to spit in..
I had resorted to wearing nicotine patches in public, not because I wanted to quit, I was that tired of the hassle of spitting.
I have never heard about Snus until May of this year. I was watching, a program on television about the "History of Tobacco". It showed segments about ancient uses, cigars, cigarettes, chewing, smokeless, and finished with a 2 min. segment about Snus.
After the program went off, I "Googled" Snus. Did about 5 mins of research and ordered a sample box.
I really enjoy Catch Licorice and Euclyptus, and Roda Lacket, portions. It has also saved me money. The Kodiak, that used to use was $4.75, and I was using a can to a can and a half a day. The Snus works out to be around $4.15 a can, including shipping. But a can will last me 3 to 4 days. The nicotine content must be higher in Snus than the Kodiak. It seems like,I do not need it as much or often.
I would like to say "Thank You" Sweden for sharing this little treasure with the rest of us.
Lets hear your discoverey story of Snus...

Since, I posted this. My tastes have change too. Now, I am using Genreal Los, Knox Los, Roda Lacket portions and los,General Sterk portion, and N&J portions.

I just recently found snus about 2 weeks ago. My story is not unlike that of other ex-smokers. I awoke one morning hacking and weezing, and had a long, fearful, disobedient inner discussion with myself about quitting. I went to check my mail and discovered a coupon for a tin of free camel snus. I had no idea what snus was, put the coupon in my back pocket and forgot about it. I went about my day as normal. Smoking. Hating it. Later that day I went to my usual 7-11 to pick up a package of camels. I looked up and my eyes were fixed on a row of tins, the exact tins that were displayed on the coupon i recieved from Camel. I decided to give it a shot. I got the tin for free, and put in a portion of Camel original. I thought it tasted like candy, and sorta disliked it immediately. After about a half hour I realized that I hadn't even thought of a cigarette since I'd put the portion in. This was amazing for me because I was a horrid chain smoker. I then went home and did some research. I found that my insincts about Camel Snus were correct. I knew this couldn't be the real stuff, and I knew it was probably americanized to the point of awfulness. I did some thorough research and found a wine shop in Beverly Hills that sold General. I immediately jumped in my car. Well, to make a long story short, I loved the general original portion and decided my smoking days were over. It's almost been 2 weeks, and I haven't smoked. I have also found a tobacco product that I feel is truely unique, ENJOYABLE, and satisfying.
I smoked Camel lights for years.... The funny thing here is the only thing Camel ever gave me for all the money I spent with them, was the link to quitting their horrible product!

              THANKS CAMEL!

oh, btw, since then I have ordered General Sterk, General Onyx, and Gottenborg's Rape , 1 roll of Skruf , 1 can Ettan Loose, 1 can Grovsun, and an assortment of others I cannot remember. I have recieved the first 3 can order, and cannot wait to try more! I got the Skruf recommendation from a Swedish bud that I almost kicked in the balls for not telling me about snus before Camel had... Anyway he stated that if I'm attempting to quit smoking, that I'd love Skruf... Thanks for reading!

Its been almost 2 years since I first started to snus. I honestly don't remember how I was initially introduced to snus. However, my only access to snus [at the time] was thru a local tobacco shop that had the 4 or 5 normal swedish match products. I exclusively used the General Wintergreen. At the shop there was some promotion with surveys that swedish match was hosting. I contacted them to be part of the survey and was then introduced to three samples that they were wanting feedback on. Two of the three were awful tasting and I didn't bother with them. But the third [labeled "T"] was much better for my tastes. Finally I ran out of my sample and was desperate to get more of the "T" so I called the market research outfit to ask which if any of the 3 samples was going to be marketed. The fella there said that the "T" was going to be marketed to the USA and should be available in 6 months or so and that I would have to wait. I guess I was whining so much that the fella said that he had a few spare tins and he would send them to me free. Well I got them and hoarded them like a bitch untill Lorriard finally started to market them in Ohio. I had a heck of a time finding someone to buy them and ship them to me. Many of the members here can remember me whining about not being able to get the "T" I'm sure. Well, as some of you know, the "T" is now marketed as Triumph and there are quite a few fans of that brand on the board now. Finally, some of you people realize now why I was so insistant to actually get my hands on some. And as its been said before "the rest is history". Long rant, stupid story............but its mine.

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I'm new to the world of snus - I mean really new (something like a week). I've heard of snus but had never really seen any.

One day, I stopped by my local 7-11 to get a pack of Camel Lights (something I've done for more years than I can remember). I always look to see what the specials are (buy 2 get 1 free stuff), and they had buy 1 get a free tin of Camel Snus.

Being curious, I got my pack and my cupon and got a tin of Camel Original (it was all they had).

I pop'ed one in and damn if I didn't like it!

Since I started, I've gone thru just over a pack of cigarettes (can't complain - I was at a pack+ a day), and I'm on my 3rd Camel tin.

In the meantime, I've order a variety of snus'es from Northern and buysnus (they should be in next week).

I want to quit the smoking (I too am tired of the hacking and wheezing), but the gums/patches and the like made me sick.

However, so far the snus is working and I'm loving it! I'm getting anxious to get hold of the "real" thing!!!!!

I believe if you want to quit and find a flavor you like, it will just happen that easy.

Good luck and welcome to the world of snus.

I too am new to the Snus world. Here's my story: I've been smoking for over 25 years and like most of you, have tried numerous ways of quitting which have made me sick and light in the pocket. 2 weeks ago, a friend of mine and I were on our way to our yearly Brickyard 400 weekend (Season Tickets) in Indiana. Well, I needed smokes and went into a local gas station and spotted Camel Snus. Since you really can't smoke when your around 200,000 NASCAR fans without burning one, I figured it was like "dip" and could use this as an alternative. I asked the guy behind the counter if he knew about it and he said "It's like "dip" but without the spitting". SOLD!!! Got 2 cans of Spice and was hooked! I smoked Ultra Lights so, I got the same nicotine effect but, the best part was I could get my Nicotine fix without burning my fellow fans and without making my buddy unconfortable during the 4 hour ride home. I started researching as soon as I got home and found this site and have been a fan ever since. I have learned so much from all of you that I have made my first purchase of the "Real Thing" tonight. I had to stock up on Camel until my order from BuySnus comes in (I live in the sticks northwest of Chicago and do not have access to it here yet). The Wife doesn't mind since she doesn't smoke and I can now sit in the livingroom (I don't smoke in the house) with the rest of the family without having to go to the garage to get my nic fix. That's my story, albiet long winded. I'd love to hear if anyone has suggestions on Snus that has a spice taste.

                        Welcome AirWoodstock,

Although I have never tried Camel Snus and am partial to the natural and slightly smokey flavors, I am sure you will find a world of information on this forum, as I have. The Swedish Snus is in a class of its own.

Its amazing that I have no urge's to smoke whatsoever. I believe the nicotine delivery is just the right balance for me and helps alleviate stress and I have more lung capacity for my workouts.

Have fun with this adventure in snus,

Since i live i Norway, snus is quite popular here, but i wasn't really that interested in it before i stole a pouch from my dad a few years ago. After that i borrowed a few from my friends, and before i knew it, i was hooked.

I went to college in San Marcos, TX (just south of Austin) and a year (or two, can't remember) ago I was sitting at a bar in San Marcos and the camel folks came round giving their snus out for free. They were test marketing it in Austin and the area I was in at the time because of the smoking bans. I used to smoke about 5 cigars a day (and inhale them) and was looking to stop that. Tried the camel stuff and thought it was good! Did a little internet search about snus, and whoa, a whole new world opened up. Made a first order of about 7 cans and have been snusing ever since!

I'm new to the forum and to snus in general (about a week)... I might as well start at the beginning... When I was a kid, about 12 or so, Skoal and Copenhagen were very popular among my circle of friends. I tried it two or three times, but each time it made me ill within a few minutes. Then I tried chewing Levi Garrett, which I loved, and it didn't make me sick... So I chewed LG pouch and plug for a few years until I started smoking in earnest at about 15... I was a pack-a-day+ smoker for 20 years, with never any real interest in quitting until a couple weeks ago...

I was at a family function, and my wife's cousin who was a dedicated smoker much like myself said that he was cutting back, and using Oliver Twist to help. I didn't really think much of it since I'd previously used smokeless tobacco, and thought it was just some new kind of tobacco that you chewed and spit like normal... A few days after that, we were at the Indian smoke shop getting our ration of cigs, and my wife saw a can of OT there and pointed out that that's what her cousin was using. Still not that interested, I just glanced at the can and noticed that it said smokeless and spitless tobacco... Well that piqued my interest, so I started Googling around and found a forum (not this one) on snus, and I just lurked there for a couple days... I made a few calls to the local tobacconists to see if they carried snus, and unfortunately none of them did... So I found the Swedish Match website and read a little more information, and decided to buy the portion variety pack...

Well I went back to that first forum, and only then noticed that it had been dead for a couple years, so after some more searching I ended up here... I'm still working on that first selector pack, and I haven't totally given up smoking, but I've cut way back... I am very happy with snus so far. I love the taste, and I've experienced no ill effects except for a little bit tender lip on one side... I can snus without any urge to spit, and I can drink from a glass with no problem... Yes, I've only been using portions, and I'll probably just stick with those for a while because it's more discreet, and I really don't want to gross out my wife and kids...

All-in-all I think that I will stick with snus, and endeavor to kick the smokes for good... I'm happy to know that there are many like minded folks out there to chat with about snus!
