    our favorite holiday season foods

    here we go!

one food per poster and include the recipe

here's mine (it was a tough call):

    ******************************
    glogg

48 cups apple juice (NOT cider)
    24 cups grape juice
    48 Tablespoons sugar
    24 whole cinnamon sticks
    96 cloves
24 dried orange peels (put in a 200F oven for about 30 minutes)
    8 cups dark raisins
8 cups blanched almonds (cover with boiled water for about 20 minutes then remove and rinse in cold, peel)
12 teaspoons cardamom seeds (freshly crushed)
    6 teaspoons ground ginger

method 1: put everything in a large stock pot and heat but do NOT boil and keep it there for about an hour. leave too cool at room temp covered for a day or so. strain/siphon into bottles. keep and rinse the cinnamon sticks and add one to each bottle. cap. age. enjoy.

method 2: put all the herbs/spices in a mesh bag (cheese cloth, etc.), put raisins in a separate bag, put almonds in a separate bag. follow steps above. remove spice bag and other large solids and discard, keep raisins, almonds and cinnamon sticks. bottle as above.

    makes about 8x 750ml bottles.

serve hot and add some raisins, blanched almonds and a cinnamon stick to each mug.

note: you can also make with wine but i don't prefer it since you can't give it to kids and the wine adds a sharp flavor from the alcohol. you can spike each mug with wine, clear liquor (vodka) or a complimentary flavored alcohol of choice.

    enjoy!
