Christmas was trying this year. A guy I help with his house is out of town, and he has a brand new tenant in a rental. We just stripped the basement due to hurricane flooding, and it was finished last week. Turns out the water heater doesn't want to stay on. I've been up 3 or 4 times over the last 3 days, and 2 of the times was today. He has the rest of his family coming up from Arizona, and not surprisingly, he wants hot water for them. After I got the second email today, I took a crash course online to learn how a gas fired water heater works. I've dealt with gas stuff before as a user, but never really knew how it worked. I just lit them, and didn't give it another thought. I think the problem was the thermocouple, so when I went back tonight, I bent it 1mm-2mm closer to the pilot. I REALLY hope that fixed it. It appeared to keep going, so I'm hopeful. I'm tired of going there, and I'm sure the guy wants reliable hot water.

Then there's my daughter... She brought me her computer to fix. The dipshits she lives with had a bunch of ad/spyware on it, and I screwed with it all day, and it still isn't right. I didn't have any of my tools to check things out, and it appears it can't boot from an SDcard which I did have. I keep a 256mb thumb drive in my wallet, but that wasn't big enough to use. I got it going faster, but there's still some big problems. It has symptoms of a bad hard drive, but I'm hoping it's just Windows that got fscked over. I'm gonna install Ubuntu on it tomorrow, and hopefully that'll fix it.

oh yea, the cats... The girls still hissing at her brother, and she's started hissing at me. The boy won't eat his canned prescription food, and I have to put the dry food up where he can't get it, so the girl can't eat either. Everyone's pissy and hungry, and I'm tired of dealing with them. I wish those two would get their shit together...

Aside from that, it was a pretty good Xmas, but I'm tired. Time for some coffee, snus, and bed.

Yeah Christmas is a bitch but its been fun. My little girl turned 1 yesterday on Christmas Eve, so the past two days have really set the stage for the next 20 years in terms of making Christmas Eve the best shit ever for my daughter, then making sure my own mother has the big family day she needs on Christmas Day. It's the most important thing in the world to her. Now after all that, we are all traveling south to Portland tomorrow to Christmas it up with my wife's separated parents, separately. Celebrating the birthday/Christmas with my father and daughter will have to wait even further... So it's not even close to over for me. And it's going to be this way every year, seeing as we have two sets of divorced parents each to make rounds to, and the new baby daughter who's birthday is on December 24. Shit's tiring! But I am fortunate to have what I have. Not bitchin about it, just painting a picture. I was inspired by lxskllr to accurately describe my Christmas. Its been a lot of fun and also pretty goddamn stressful. Merry Christmas people. I hope the new year brings fortune and good tidings to you and yours.

Hope your day was good you lot. I spent my day filling my face with food and Prosseco.....so as night drew in pissed as a fart I watched the upstairs hot water tank flood through the ceiling. Thanks Santa.

That sucks man. Hope you get it sorted ok, and had little damage to your stuff. Rental, right?

My fears about my daughter's computer were correct. The hard drive is shot. I don't have the cash or inclination for putting a new one in, so I setup MacPup to boot off a thumb drive for her. That'll give her the tools she needs for school, and a web browser. It's only a 1gb drive, but that's big enough for the essentials.
