    Would You Eat Horsemeat?

Versatile, healthy and in plentiful supply, there are many ways to prepare delicious dishes with horsemeat
The news that traces of horse DNA have been found in burgers on sale in UK supermarkets has predictably resulted in a minor storm – and a groanworthy selection of jokes – in the newspapers and on social media. But how rational is our horror of eating horse? And is it time to examine our prejudice against what is, after all, an extremely healthy meat?

Of course, the main reason to be scandalised by yesterday's revelations is not that Tesco was selling burgers containing horse, but that they weren't labelled as such. It's not illegal to sell horsemeat in the UK, but it is illegal to sell food containing ingredients that aren't listed on the label. The products in question also included traces of pig DNA, which is considerably more shocking, if you believe that a religious ban on eating pork carries more weight than a moral aversion to eating horse (although horsemeat is also forbidden under some religious dietary laws).

I've had horsemeat several times, And I find it to be incredibly delicious. But then again I eat most meats I'm offered(veal, moose, reindeer, and anything else we're offered in Norway.)

Yes had it plenty of times, its very tasty, like a very tender beef great served blue as a steak. I agree with Mdisch, not much meatwise I haven't tried tbh.

Would I eat it? I've been promoting the consumption of horse meat to you lot (fellow yanks/canucks ...and brits) for some time. Icelandic horse bjúga ring a bell? Don't knock it until you've tried it!

If I was living on that side of the pond, I would clear the supermarkets of their horse-laced burgers, and you lot would probably sell it to me dirt cheap too.

        Mmmmmm, tasty.

I'd give it a go - as long as it had been raised healthily for eating. The problem with illicit horsemeat is more to do with the kinds of chemicals they pump the animals with if they're not designated for the table!

Horsemeat is delicious! I loved the horse salami when it was still available in my country. For some reason or another it has become very rare now It is probably too expensive to breed horses for meat compared to mass-production of pigs etc.

I also had a horse steak at a Mongolian Barbecue restaurant in Vienna and it was fantastic, too.

No way. I even feel gross after eating beef and pork.

I've eaten horsemeat quite a few times. It's got a more pronounced taste than beef I find. I don't quite understand people who will eat one kind of animal and not the other for moral reasons. If you don't like the taste, that's a differentthing.

But sure, if it's sold as beef, it should be beef, that much is obvious.

I ate horse for breakfast almost every day for 10 days straight. Never had it in the US though. The more interesting question is, would you eat cat meat?

I would at least try it. But I wouldn't eat the stuff from these guys. I'd find it hard to trust someone that smuggles horse and pig meats into their beef and lies about it. You never know what state that animal might have been in. Being from the American south, there isn't a lot I haven't tried. Surprisingly, I've never had horse.

I'd actually go mostly vegan if I could afford it. Crazy world we live in, animals are horribly inefficient to raise and yet they're cheaper to eat.
