    Best android Games & Apps

Android seems to be entering a completely different age for gaming. We're not talking about Angry Birds style games we're talking console quality.
I downloaded two free games which seem to have pretty much just arrived on the scene - F18 Carrier Landing Lite and Air Navy Fighters Lite. These are top quality games.... it turns my phone into a PSP.
I've noticed other games which are pay - Grand Theft Auto III.
With the arrival of Onlive, Steam and now the transformation of games fo mobile phones, I'd call it that this is the beginning of the end for console gaming.

Anybody else aware of any other Games or Apps that have taken the quantum leap recently?

I use one called BestRoute sometimes. It's where you can give it up to 50 addresses and it'll bang out the most efficient route. Now, with the integration of Google Maps and real-time traffic it has fundamentally changed driving for me from the way that I learned. The app was five bucks, I think but after that it's all free. It's probably pertinent, mostly 'cos I live and work in and around Boston.

There are a few augmented reality apps for driving too. They teach principles that weren't taught in driving when I was a kid. From what I can see, not many other people on the road learned that s either...just sayin'. I need a rig for my phone though 'cos you have to mount it as you would a dash-cam...well...that's what it ends up being.

The other augmented reality games are crap. There's information ones that seem to work well based on Google data. I heard Brazil was to paint barcodes on the sidewalk so smartphones can read them and pull up a website with tourist info for what's around.

The Siri-like thing that Android has is crap too, IMO. I think it needs a little more intuition. Rather than bringing me to the answer, it would be better to be told the answer. It's not helpful while moving.

With Tasker i built my own voice assistant, at the end of the day i say "goodnight" to my phone, and my computer shuts down, i don't think Siri can do that

The video recording on my phone is imo slightly better than the new Samsung Galaxy s3 - the Galaxy tends to be slightly insipid with the colours. It's an 8 megapixel so it's good enough.
I have a JVC digital hard drive camcorder and imo it's better than that. Of course the files for phones are more recognisable - the JVC takes AVCHD format which is a right royal pain in the arse trying to get devices that are compatable - conversions are therefore required etc etc.......pain. The main problem with phones is getting enough light captured through such a small lense but I feel that HTC has done the best job to date with the One X........there's still a lot of room for improvement though.

Glalxy SIII. The thing rocks! Just about everything does. The text is still taking some getting used to due to it's sensitivity. Maybe it's my impatience. I find that gesturing the words is easier.

I've never learned much about video specs ...I would appreciate your help.

Any chance in hell I could get us to look @ my phones pic/vid specs?

This is the repo I use...

                      http://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdpage=1

Might be underwhelming compared to the Play store, but all the apps are libre, and gratis. Source code is available. Almost everything I use comes from there.

I remember watching a YouTube video that said the S3 had a setting called "Auto adjust screen tone" (or something like that) and it's checked by default, the colours look more normal if you change it, the note/note2 has the same setting for oversaturated and unrealistic colours. It's the Note 2 that i want next

I don't currently have a phone of any kind. I'm using a cheap tablet; primarily as an Ereader, but also for the fun of hacking around, and light internet use.

If I had a phone, I'd keep it in airplane mode, and check it occasionally for messages, or when I needed to make a call. Not as convenient, but infinitely more convenient than the phones I grew up with which were bolted to the wall. I'd also use wifi as much as possible. Any phone I did get would need to be rootable at a minimum, and preferably able to run 3rd party ROMS.

As far as "must have" apps, the stuff I use is pretty unexciting. Here's a few I use regularly...

                              FBreader - Ereader
                              Tint browser - requires ICS+
                              DroidWall - firewall
Missile Intercept - Missile Command clone. Very simple, but classic fun
                              VLC - media player
Ghost Commander - dual pane file manager. Allows root access, but you need to be rooted.
                              Orbot - Tor client
                              Orweb - Tor browser
                              KeePassDroid - password manager
                              Tomdroid - wiki style notepad
                              K9 - email client
                              DiskUsage - disk space analyser
                              Aard dictionary - offline dictionary
