Quite Possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard

I have been waiting for a package to arrive. Originally it was expected to be delivered by usps on feb 2. It didnt make it so i figured it would make it here by monday. Monday rolled around and sure enough the tracking number said it was out for delivery. Still did not arrive Monday. So today (tuesday) rolls around. I catch my postman walking up to my mailbox and i show him my phone with the tracking page pulled up and ask if he has my package. He says no. So i ask him what the deal is.

Apparently the "out for delivery" status means it has been received by the local post office but will not be delivered until 2-5 days after that, and you cant go pick it up. When i obviously asked him why the hell that is he said "thats just how its done." For the past few years I've heard the occasional talk of the usps going out of business and never really could figure out why. It became very apparent today. I'm not sure if they just do not have the money for the deliveries when they arrive or if its too much of a hassle to move a package from the building into the delivery truck within 3 days but this is one of the most absurd things I have heard every since precious's "everyone in romania is smarter than everyone else in the world" statement.

then again maybe this is how larger city post offices have always been. I know one thing for sure. I will be sending my packages to my relatives adress a short distance away in a small town so that i do not have to wait an extra week to get it. I guess these copenhagen coupons that have been sitting on my dresser will get some use after all.

No no no..........government medical care is going to work just fine

Once the Post Ofiice crashes..........all these postal workers can go drive ambulances............where "dispatched" means there is an ambulance in your town............... and it should arrive on the scene in 3-5 days
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

At this point i could have walked and picked it up from the original sender in a quicker amount of time. Not to mention it went from northern illinois to a sorting location about 30 miles past where i live which has a sorting location. I understand logistics. Sometimes its better to send things from atlanta to detroit to kentucky but with such a small scale thing like this they literally went out of their way to make it take longer to get to me

............and......it was sent by priority mail
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

on a related note. my neighbors just knocked on my door. They gave me a package that wound up in their mailbox. It contained 100 blank checks for the new checking account i just opened. I wouldnt be mad at all if it just said expected delivery date (the day it will actually arrive). Instead they proudly posted the shipping would take only one day to get to me and then offer a lame explanation for why it hasnt. It's literally sitting about a 10 minute drive away from me with no means of me obtaining it until they decide they want me to. So in short they have not only delayed my shipping for no reason. Something i paid money to get done in a short amount of time. they also made it possible for someone to clean me out because they put a package for me in the wrong effing locked mailbox

That's weird because I always get an "arrived at post office" status when it gets to local post office, then "sorting complete" and then "out for delivery" when its........wait for it.....out for delivery. Your guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Typical government employee.

Exactly. Either they are just incredibly lazy or so short staffed that they have packages that just sit

The USPS needs new management across the board. From the top all the way down to the local post office. They've screwed up my mail forwarding twice, lazy postman doesn't deliver sales ads, even though companies paid to have them delivered everywhere in the city, and he refuses to pick up outgoing mail.

Hopefully today will be the day. I would have liked to have my new snus before today since I have a few tests to take but hopefully I can stop by and pick it up before heading off to work. More realistically it'll probably arrive 2 years from now with the postman proudly smiling and saying "you're package is delivered sir, right on schedule"

So today I was lucky and had my last class of the day cancelled...so i went home and waited. I had from 12-3 home. Literally sat and did homework quietly. I see the postman come and go. I go out and check my mailbox. Something in there saying I have to go pick it up. I check the tracking number "attempted delivery." apparently attempted delivery is letting me know they dont want to deliver it. So i take this slip and go to the post office at 3 before i have to leave for work. Post office lady looks at this slip and tells me "yeah this is actually something you'll have to wait until friday to pick up its still being processed" I asked how its being processed if it was supposedly attempted to be delivered. She had no answer.

I calmly ask (because i know its not something shes involved with) how a package can get from sweden to illinois in 2 days and then take 5 days to get from a post office on one side of town to the other and she just shook her head as if she was ashamed to be associated with the usps. I am not currently a holder of or in pursuit of a business management degree but i doubt the post office manger is either. The package is literally THERE but i can not pick it up or have it delivered. The post office is on its way out people. If you are an entrepreneur a huge segment is about to open up for anyones taking.

I wonder if you could call the police and report it as a theft. It's in the local office, but they refuse to deliver it. That would get some attention and raise some eyebrows. I really hate to see people lose their jobs/get fired, but in the case of USPS, it's very needed.

Gather some investors, we're going to start a private postal service. And yep, it will ship snus.

It's not something i want to take legal action with but its getting out of hand. In the past week they have refused to give me my package and made it possible for someone to drain my bank accounts (as previously mentioned they delivered my checks to the wrong mailbox). It's not a dire situation, i have plenty of what the package contains but i want what the package contains. If the expected delivery was friday that would have been fine. Instead they inflated the expectation by saying it would arrive saturday and then held it hostage for a week to "process it." The post office didnt even attempt to deliver yet left a note saying they did (with the 7th as the attempted delivery. it is currently the 6th.) It's like buysnus said i could download a can of snus and have it instantly while in reality they would have to send me the physical product somehow. It's like me promising a customer they're covered while in reality theyre driving uninsured until i "process" their money. Cut saturdays in fact cut every day, i would hate to have something of grave importance sent with usps with these methods. Hell i might as well have drove an hour and a half met the sender half way and paid for his travel expenses and lunch.

This sparked my curiosity. How does it work today in the USA? If you have an accident and the ambulance is called, do you have to pay in cash or CC or show them your insurance papers... Or they just get you to hospital and then send you a bill for a hefty sum? And if they do not have a proof who was that injured guy?

In my hole of a country rescue services have always been government-run and free of charge for their actual clients. When I needed them (and with an epileptic wife I do need them from time to time), they came in 3 to 8 minutes. Two paramedics, one doctor and a driver (Or maybe 1 of the paramedics drove/was not really paramedic just a driver, I am not sure about that detail).

In America, in an emergency situation you are treated and at least stabilized regardless of your ability to pay. You are still responsible for the bill even if you were unconscious and someone else called 911. As for your country, its hardly "free of charge" you all just have a different method of paying for it.
