Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead.

Back in the 90-ies I interpreted to a distinguished British gentleman who came to train our new "democratic" government. In the course of his lectures he had to mention Margaret T. several times due to various reforms she forced on the UK. Each and every time he said her name, this gentleman spat. And I mean really spat in a dramatically contemptuous manner. He apologized in advance for doing that, but he also explained that it is his moral duty to do so and cannot forfeit it.

So I had to laugh out loud when I read the news of "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" getting the honor of being included in a short elite list of songs banned by the BBC together with "God Save the Queen" by Sex Pistols and "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Good job, censors! Appropriate last tribute to the wicked witch

The song isn't banned, the BBC just chose not to play it, which is fair enough.

As for Margaret Thatcher, all those hating on her now are simply sore losers. They fought her back in the day and they lost. To this day, they're bitter about it, yet they didn't defeat her, only illness and death did. So it sounds very hollow when these people celebrate.

£10,000,000 on a funeral for a public servant?

      Disgraceful. Expect civil discontent.

Once you have a chart, a competition with a set of terms and conditions decided before the contestants enter the contest, it is NOT fair to exclude the winner because you do not like the one who won.

Personally I do not hate her, even though she is on record asking Gorbatchev to use military force against us Eastern Block inhabitants when there was a danger that Berlin wall might fall and Germany might unite*. I am just amused by the sore losers who cannot take the joke.

*Luckily for us, the Soviet leader was not a complete moron. He told the baroness he would not take heed of her requests** and kept the tanks inside their respective bases.

** I believe he did not literally tell her GFY

I suspect most of my opinons about MT are about as valid as a European's opinions on HRM Barack Obongo, but here goes anyhow...
I think she stood out as someone who realized the unsustainability of Socialism and managed to come off as classy and intelligent as her counterpart Ronald Regan came off as likeable and sincere. That's about the best compliment an anarchist can give a PM and President.

On the Cold War, both MT and RR were totally daft and bought over by warmongers. I remain thankful that the Soviets were never the monsters the American and British right-wing made them out to be. The Soviets were certainly less imperialistic and expansionist than the UK and US were, as history showed. It was all smoke and mirrors in the end.

That is a Socialist idea. In her world the funeral would be privatized and a) make money itself for the new owners; or b) go bankrupt and toss the body somewhere where it´s out of sight.

can you image that beautiful scope of Funeral Merchandize this would generate? Little Dead Maggies (coffin optional)...

Brilliant idea: Charge 10 euro to visit her grave and make that money back!

Off-topic to Ansel: Is there a country ruled by the Green(ish) party in the world? Is it much better to live in than our standard industrial nations? Would it be feasible to move and live there?

The first places full of trees that occured to me were the US national foretsts, but you probably cannot live there.

And if the forest is not protected, can be bought...
I read a book about an American family going to live deep in the forests to avoid all this industriual mess. Several members - mother, child, dog and probably an adult male as well (but I think he survvived the wound) -were shot dead and the rest ran crying back to the city. They were assaulted military style in Idaho, I think, by Federal agents, because they wese spied having a shotgun a bit shorter than the Federal limit.

That is the Ruby Ridge massacre. Where Randy Weaver and his family were assualted by militarized thugs. Randy was shot in the armpit but survived and released from prison.. He killed a Marshal Deegan (I think that was his name) when the Marshal shot and killed his young son. The younger Weaver had walked up and seen the Marshal shoot his dog, and had fired at the Marshal. A FBI sniper (Lon Hurrochi, I think) shot Randy Weaver's wife Vicky in the face while she was holding her baby looking out a window. A family friend was also hit in the lung but survived and was freed from prison.

That was a terrible tragedy and was cold-blooded murder on the part of the gang called "government".

The whole event might take place in an enclosed environment like a stadium etc with entrance fees paid by all who want to be prezent. Also news stations would have to pay just like for soccer/football/baseball/basketball etc. events.
