In short my support of the Second Amendment is not affected by the self defense merits of a gun. The Second Amendment talks as much about self defense from muggers as it does hunting, as in it is about neither. The defense the second amendment is about is the defense of the people from their own government. Distracting the argument with hunting and urban rambo scenarios does not help anything.

This poll needs a box for "Yes, I carry three or more firearms at all times".

A gun at best is a psychological deterrent weapon, and that only works if you open carry it. Something many states have as legal but no matter what will always earn you unwanted attention.

Simple fact is, if you are in a situation where someone has gun pointed at you that is loaded and ready and they are prepared to shoot, there is no way you will bring your concealed weapon to bear effectively before they just shoot you. You are most likely not some ace quick draw shot or for that matter Raylan Givens...

        This is bang on.
There were only a few cases in NI where security service personel were able to fend off an attack at their homes or on their way to work. Most of them were not able to produce their PPW in time.....which is why I never carried.

You would have to use your gun to shoot and possibly kill a killer, no time to be passive. I can easily think of a few instances where a shooter had time to pick a target in a crowd, aim, fire, and repeat.... but could have been stopped by a bullet from a good guy's gun. Good gun owners don't want to shoot anybody, but have a responsibility to to do it if the situation warrants it.

It's happening more and more around here. Our so called Peace officers are anything but. That guy committed no crime but to save face they had to trump up a charge that I'm sure will disappear but htis guy will be on the hook for lawyer fees and court costs. No Judge is going to allow it to just go away without him learning a lesson. It's all about being domesticated.... So sad.... Pretty sure Andrew Jackson would have shot that cop..... Probably in a Legal duel.

Our traffic police are like that, especially if hey are on one of those TV shows. I remember watching one where some guy didn't indicate to turn into a side road, they went in lights blazing and smashed his window and dragged him out of the car! Slight over reaction IMO, they then tried to make out he didn't have insurance or a valid MOT (which it turned out he did) and a host of other crap! Idiots on power trips!

Wait, I don't want to assume, but are you saying that a mass shooting is statistically significant to adjust your daily habits around?

No. I was responding to you when you posted "(I mean really it is not a defensive weapon at all, it cannot "block" anything)". I made no reference to reorganizing one's life or habits other than to accept the responsibility of carrying a cc, which would be to use your weapon as required should the opportunity arises.

OK, still your example scenario is rather unusual all things being equal...

I see your point Ken. This is the scenario I have in mind. "...........ran into the restaurant, already firing his assault weapon." Quite possibly ample time for a good guy to respond and save some people."
