    Do you Conceal Carry?

    I'm as old as dirt...

When I was growing up, you would go outside and play with other kids on your block... now you have to make "playdates" for your kids!
There were very few mass killings... things seemed much simpler and safer back then.

I never thought I would see the day that I would conceal carry. Now I do so every day. Seems like there are more nuts out there today than in the good old days.

Anyhow, I'm just curious if anyone else here conceal carries? I'll keep the poll Anonymous.

In the days of "no dont say that, that could offend someone" and "he's a little different just leave him alone" people do crazy things. The kid that gets told he is the greatest by his parents doesnt receive the same view from his peers and he goes nuts.
I was suspended from high school about 5 years ago for 2 days because of a few words i said to a certain individual. When the school was talking to my parents their response was "When we were his age being made fun of was called being in high school not a crime" There used to be a balance to society that kept things like this from happening but because noone can say anything about anyone without being racist or a bully or anything else one extreme will tell someone how special they are while another extreme will tell them how worthless they are and if that person is unstable a bad result will unfold. This result isn't something to blame on obama or republicans or democrats or anything, its to blame on a society that constantly sat back and said no that career serial killer shouldn't be jailed, he's a different race/religion/ethnicity than us so if we say he should be put away for life we'd be racist. I'm going to show how un-racist i am and say everyone is discriminating against him. /rant

There's twice as many people now as there were in 1950. My guess is the per capita loonie density is roughly the same, with a possible small increase now due to people being jammed together. Tight quarters breeds violence.

If you've got a netflix you should check out the documentary "freakonomics" (you should skip to the next part when they start talking about sumo wrestling.) Statistically speaking the huge crime spike in the 80's and early 90's and then the drop off in that is directly correlated to abortion being made legal. The study showed that many people who were career criminals were unwanted children and then 25 years later it was found that crime dropped in people under the age of 25 while people over that age still commited crimes at the same rate. They compared it to Romania where crime rose exponentially after nikoli (some hard to pronounce last name) decided the workforce needed to be expanded and forced people to have children and taxed those that were unable to.

A lot of people hate math but just knowing a few basic formulas or logical paths of thought can help you come up with incredible ideas.

Yep. I do everyday. I've gotten so use to it I don't even think about it anymore...sometimes I just have to think about which one to carry. ;-)

The Book is better than movie. I actually sent a copy to sgreger1 awhile back. I actually couldn't even watch the movie after first having read the book.

I usually don't try to interest people in reading books which is why i suggested the movie, but you're right the book was very good as well.

On the nutter count.....26.2% of Americans are mentally ill .... Same as anywhere else. If the population goes up the percentage stays the same but youve got more people suffering mental illness.
That figure which is the same in any country is very high.

Simple statistical fact is we live in the most safe and peaceful time. That is when compared to all of history. The statistical probability that you will die at the hands of another human is lower now than any other point in history. The news plays up the insane because it sells, not because it is a statistically relevant occurrence.

                        Good point, Devilock.

Here in Alaska, anyone who can legally own a firearm can carry it concealed without a permit.

Anywhere there are visible gangs or low income/FREE housing you are still going to have trouble. Very glad to be out of that neighborhood.

My parents home in a big suburb now has kids running around and friendly neighbors just like when I was growing up in the 70's/80's.
The only difference is that everybody is more guarded these days. Kids do not leave their yards or freely walk into others garages/homes like our pack did.

You know what bugs me about this argument: "What stops an armed bad guy from killing innocent people? ... an armed good guy... but now the government wants to take the guns away from law abiding citizens"

First of all, it is not true that the gov't wants to take away guns that would help the "good guys" in that sort of public shooting scenario, and secondly, the only people I ever hear making that statement do not themselves carry their weapons in public!

To clarify, I do agree that it's a bad idea to ban guns, and the reason alluded to above is one of mine as well. But if you are going to tout the benefits to society of walking around armed, then for Christ's sake, arm yourself in public.

Yes and no. I for example dislike guns, well not dislike but prefer not to carry, but don't like gun laws. Fact of the matter I consider a gun a poor defensive weapon (I mean really it is not a defensive weapon at all, it cannot "block" anything). A gun at best is a psychological deterrent weapon, and that only works if you open carry it. Something many states have as legal but no matter what will always earn you unwanted attention.

Simple fact is, if you are in a situation where someone has gun pointed at you that is loaded and ready and they are prepared to shoot, there is no way you will bring your concealed weapon to bear effectively before they just shoot you. You are most likely not some ace quick draw shot or for that matter Raylan Givens...
