Do you have a compiler or do you need one?

As I've told crow I'm much too busy right now to be a true participant. I'm going to try and follow along tho. I have downloaded eclipse for mac as I am not running the latest and greatest os 10 which is needed for what I can see are the best compilers. ( I've read some shitty stuff about it.) So I'm running OS 10.6.8 latest. I just downloaded eclipse which I will be playing with when I'm free and hopefully learning a lot about. If anybody has a better free download they think I should try please let me know...... Also If you know eclipse and help me get it tuned in the best way for this exercise it would be nice. Sorry for the less than technical speak but I would hope you get what I'm asking....

Skillet: Could you please remind me which compiler you're using?

Bigblue: I'm not sure about Eclipse.. I'll try to read up on it a bit.

I'm probably gonna use Geany for an IDE, and GCC as the compiler. I think that would be easiest for jumping right in. Emacs is a bit much to take off with from the start.

So eclipse is kinda sketchy? Have a better option for mac. Anyone know where I can download an older version of xcode that will run on 10.6.8

Xcode should be in your applications disc. It comes bundled with each iteration of Mac OS X.

So apparently it wasn't installed on either my IMac or my macbook. If I run the install dvd will it let me just install xcode or will it re-install my whole system?
