From my experience here the moderators do a good job and are reasonable and tolerant.

Try making one or two minor mistakes on some Forums like Pirate Bay and they are
ready to ban you. Some forums are set up with a zillion categories and if you post to
the wrong one they flip their lid. They expect all members to be hip to every facet of
the site as if they we all study and design it 24 hrs a day.

This forum has my thumbs up for being tolerant of human error.
And from my experience tolerant of free speech whether we agreed or not.

I am guessing you also have bumper stickers on your car that say "I Love My Wife" and "Support Your Local Police".

Being from NJ and living in the South (NC) now, I would not specifically say there are more rude people from NJ, but they do tend to be more blunt and direct. Usually I appreciate that. If they don't like you, it is said to your face. Other than that I see rude, self-centered, and generally inconsiderate people all over the states, without exception. The only variable is how open vs sneaky they are about it in certain areas...

Yeah, devilock but in the South the culture is that direct affronts to someone's "honor" or reputation brought on a duel or a shooting. The kinds of letters that were sent by a dispassionate second to the offender would really sound strange to a Northerner:

"Dear Sir, I am positive that the words that reached my ears must not be yours. Being a man of honor yourself, I know that such words would never escape your lips. I send this letter in the care of my cousin, who is also a man of honor, who will recieve your apology and explanation."

              In plain English:

" You talk shit, I kill you!"

The very western sliver of NJ (the zip codes that start with 07) are generally ok to deal with. Anywhere else in the state though is usually a waste of time. Noone knows what coverage they currently have or what they want and shun any attempt to explain coverages to them. Noone knows what their right to sue coverage is. And EVERYBODY lies about anything.

                Typical examples:
Me: "so you currently have insurance with 'company'"?
Them:"No i dont have insurance with them never no no no"
Me: "Ok then with no insurance history you are ineligible for 'company i work for' at this time"
Them:" oooo yeah i am insured with them"
Something they could just be honest about. I dont even need to ask them i can clearly see it on the reports i run. but if i ask them anything they will deny it no matter what even if its something positive.

Another example is them typically "being good guys and telling me about something upfront" typically something like what they claim to be a minor accident where they ran into their neighbors mail box.....except it clearly shows that the accident payed out over 50k worth of bodily injury. and then finally checking for tickets is usually a long list of several speeding/fake license plates/no insurance/no registration/illegal passing that they conveniently dont remember even though they all occured in the preceding month.

After seeing a huge list of tickets and saying they're ineligible they want to gripe about this and that and how they are a clean driver despite their accidents and tickets. Honest truth if you talk to anyone that works at any insurance company they will tell you the one thing they hate most is taking calls from people in NJ. Not to say everyone there is bad but MOST of the people shopping for auto insurance are just absolute nightmares to deal with.

That south is from long long ago. Now a days there are two modes, the redneck will tell you like it is. The rest say things like "bless her heart" (well that applies more to women, but you get the point).

The 07 zipcodes are a big section that extends well in to the north central part of the state (Morris County). Just to mention.

Well there you have it. Auto Insurance....

Seriously auto insurance is a touchy subject to most of NJ, it has always been way more expensive there than many of the surrounding states yet for a long time NJ drivers weren't allowed to deal with the Geico's and Progressives of the world when those companies first came out.

Auto insurance alone in NJ will drive you batty. And frankly no one there does not have several "incidents" to their record and then some. Driving in NJ just sucks...

Oh yeah, I know it is old. I was born there and spent about half my life in south Georiga, north Florida, and south central Alabama. Things are different. I was just saying that's where the culture of being nice to someone's face comes from in the South. Culture is all about stuff that happened "a long, long time ago".

The problem being is that they blame insurance companies rather than their local insurance authorities. PIP is something that is not necessary for auto insurance and even with Health primary it drives up the price regardless of driving record. That along with Right to sue coverages is also something that should not be required. What makes it even worse is the "basic policy" which basically lets you drive legally but with almost no coverage, so people can either pay a huge price or say hey this is cheap i'll take that not realizing any accident they get into will be primarily their responsibility to pay back.

Honestly, a course on auto insurance in high school is something that should be a requirement. Selling people state minimums anywhere but MN (30/60 BI 30 PD) makes me cringe. But they have no concept of what those numbers mean even if i try my best to explain it to them. The extra 2 dollars a month it costs you to raise you limits in NJ or PA from 15/30/5 to 25/50/25 is lost on most who still don't have a clue what auto insurance is. In the end everyone loses because it is the insured that will have to pay out of pocket for anything exceeding those incredibly small limits and the insurance company that hears the customers complaints even though we did our best to explain to them what having that state minimum insurance meant, and they refused to listen. The mindset of "the insurance company is always trying to screw me" goes into peoples heads when i tell them these things.

Well insurance is betting someone something bad will happen and hoping they are wrong. George Carlin said something to that affect specifically about Life Insurance.

But you are right, most don't get how it works, and NJ is just a mess when it comes to this, and many other things.

I moved out of NJ 15 years ago, never went back...
