Obama Unveils a Plan to Smoke Big Tobacco

"However, what did stick out like a sore thumb was Obama's budget proposal that entailed raising the federal tax on cigarettes from $1.01 per pack to $1.95 – a $0.94 increase!"

    No mention of snus.

It's all very very predictable, boring, and putrid. The nanny state whinnies and snorts that the only reason they heavily tax cigarettes is to reduce consumption and then when that happens they whine and moan that due to decreased revenues they have to increase taxes again. Rinse and repeat. That they are even thinking about taxing snus and e-cigs merely proves that their preening angst about wanting to reduce smoking is nothing but a craven smokescreen to enable the tapping of new revenue sources.

It will definitely hurt snus in the long run. As taxes go up so does the black market and ordering from overseas. When that happens, the government tries to tie tobacco to terrorist financing and will create some type of legislation that will hurt all of us.

I honestly think if buying tobacco overseas gets to be bad enough I will just try to find a job in sweden upon graduation in a short amount of time.

Honestly I have debated that. I think my wife would never go for it but my great grand parents came to America from Sweden and part of me debates going back...

Girlfriends great great grandparents came from sweden. Have been trying to track down her family there for about 6 months now but the trail goes cold about descendants that stayed in sweden. Looking to send us on a nice trip there with my visa rewards points sometime in the near future.

I talk to my cousins there on Facebook. In fact that might be the best way to get Snus sent to me...

Are they people you have always had contact with or did you somehow find them? Literally have been stuck for about 6 months on any descendants still residing in sweden. No known info from her parents/gradnparents either on family members still living there

A couple of members of that side of my family (particularly my mother's sisters/my aunts) are very diligent about keeping the family tree organized and in contact. So we first met a few years ago at a family reunion in Chicago, they flew over from Sweden. It is neat but also a necessity. Both sides of my family come out of the womb like someone dropped a bag of marbles on the floor. We scatter. I have cousins everywhere I don't even know about, or do and never met, in just about every state in the US.

Haha, this honestly makes snus look like a far more compelling alternative for smokers. As long as it doesn't affect snus, I am celebrating. It will give smokers another reason to quit and look at other alternatives such as snus. This increase would bring the average price of a pack of cigarettes in the state of Wisconsin up to about $9 a pack. $4.50 a tin ordering in bulk vs. $9 for a pack of cancer sticks. No brainer, I think.

Same record playing over and over and over all these years while Rome burns.

Lets just pray no pre-schoolers get caught in the crossfire of some gang bangers dispute over a trunk full of Polish Marlboros.
