'Equality: Passed, Present & Future' at Pride Parade

Detective Brenda Burrows, left, and Sergeant Tracy Beemster, far right, of the Seattle Police Department, brought fresh flower leis to drape on parade marshals Pete-e Petersen (hat) and her wife Jane Abbott Lighty during Seattle's 39th annual Pride Parade. "I knew they were going to be here, and I had to do something," said Burrows.

Tom Douglas restaurant employees, including Miles Farrow-Johnson, center with top hat, dance during the 39th annual Seattle Pride Parade in downtown Seattle Sunday, June 30, 2013. This year's parade theme was "Equality: Passed, Present & Future."

Emerald City Social Club's Stephanie Avion, from left in heart, Allison Schumer and Lynn Marie prepare their float for the 39th annual Seattle Pride Parade in downtown Seattle Sunday, June 30, 2013. Avion described the float as a heart displaying the scales of justice.

Isabella De La Rosa, Miss Gay Seattle 2013, puts on earrings before the start of the 39th annual Seattle Pride Parade Sunday, June 30, 2013. This year's parade theme was "Equality: Passed, Present & Future."

Liyah Dickerson-Ray, 15, laughs with her cheer team during the 39th annual Seattle Pride Parade Sunday, June 30, 2013. This year's parade theme was "Equality: Passed, Present & Future."

A group of Boy Scouts led by David McGrath, march in Seattle's 39th annual Pride Parade celebrated "Equality: Passed, Present and Future". McGrath, an Army veteran and Eagle scout with sons and a brother who is gay, gave a speech as they walked. "We are marching today for LGBTS, S, standing for Scouts," he said.

I just don't understand how exhibiting the biggest stereotypes in your community is prideful. I am quite certain that every time there's a gay pride parade 90% of the gay population does a face palm......

If someone wants to be 'colorful' or 'stereotypical', that's entirely up to them. But that's not what the festival is about.

          From Seattle PrideFest 2012 --

Where is the stereotype in that photo? It seems pretty inclusive to me.

          -----------

I see it no different than the "Million Man March".

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

                  I always cry at weddings.

Anyway, I'm glad they are now equal in the eyes of the law. Everyone has the right to be tortured by their spouse. Its part of life.

That's the point, Mr Parrot... You don't have to be gay to support their equality.
