Hey guys.
The title of the thread might confuse some, so I'll just point that I do defecate. Daily. But I don't use commercial shampoo! And yes, I do wash my body with soap daily.
I got the idea of no 'poo from a Paleo group I'm in. The more I experience of this method and see the complete perversity of using commercial shampoo, the more I'm convinced that its a positive step.
We've only been using commercial shampoo since the 30s, believe it or not. So all the heads of hair prior to this were dishevelled, dirty and smelly? No! Once you've gone through 'transition' from commercial crap with sulfates and other toxic chemicals, which can last anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple of months, you'll have clean hair, more manageable and styleable than ever. And you'll save money!
I say that using CS is perverse, let me explain: when you shampoo your hair, you are effectively stripping your locks - with detergent - of the precious natural oils produced by the sebaceous glands in your scalp - namely 'Sebum'. And then adding fake oils with conditioner! Ha!
You CAN with 'no 'poo', however, wash your hair (but with a tbsp of bicarb in a cup of water, followed by a rinse, then a tbsp of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water and rinse - but any vinegar will do, it rebalances your ph and conditions your hair). With this method, which should be used no more than every 3 days (I do it once a week) you keep the sebum. But you have to get used to your hair not smelling like a French whorehouse, and there is no lather. At all.
If you plan on going no 'poo, a 'boar bristle brush' is pretty much compulsory, for when your hair is dry. This will distribute your sebum throughout your bonce, from root to tip. This is the one I use, and the stiffest gents bristle without spending £150 on 'Indian Bristle' - KENT gents stiff bristle - OC2
On the days I don't use the BS/ACV rinse, I do what's called a 'water only' (WO) wash on my hair, which is just that :-)
Here's to happy hair!
