    36 Cheap American Beers, Ranked

I realize you're going to spend Independence Day happily drinking whatever cold adult beverage you're served, because you're polite and you're an alcoholic. And I trust you'll have a fine old time no matter what you drink. But that doesn't mean America's sh**brews are all the same. The list below breaks down 36 of them, from worst to least-worst.
    36. Keystone. This is the worst beer currently sold on American soil. It sits behind chilled glass in a convenience-store fridge like a dumb rebuke to the explosion of American beer variety all around it. In 1978 there were 89 breweries in the U.S.; today there are more than 2,400, and most of the new ones are better than most of the old ones. In 2013 craft beer is no longer the exclusive domain of West Coast weirdos and psychotic woodsmen. These fine days you can score Samuel Adams or Sierra Nevada at the least ambitious of convenience stores and Dogfish Head 90 Minute on the least reliable of trains. And then there is Keystone, which first appeared to the world in 1989, in Chico, Calif., home of the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. Keystone separates itself from the rest of the crap pack by augmenting the typical stale/sour flavor profile with notes of brown bananas and green armpits. Keystone is worse than Heineken and murder.

I can't take any beer list seriously that ranks Coors as number 3 on the positive side of the scale, label not withstanding.

You're right. Should've been higher . How can you not like a beer that has a can that turns blue. It's like a pregnancy test for my alcoholism.

Genessee Cream Ale, third worse. Does that ever bring back memories. Mid to late 80's there was a beer strike that went on for far too long here in Ontario. They started shipping in Genessee from the states and were selling it off of skids in the liquor store. I don't recall it being too nasty but that may be because there wasn't much other choice at the time. I haven't seen it in years but if I do see it again I will definitely grab a 6-pack for old time's sake.

I used to drink that in college in Massachusetts, it tastes OK but gave you a big headache the next day. I think they make it in upstate NY. I've never seen it out here.

                    Genesee Cream Ale

Genesee Cream Ale, also known commonly as Genny Cream among people in Western New York where Genesee is based, was originally brewed in 1960. The beer is recognized for winning two consecutive gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival.[8]
                    Genny Light

Genny Light was launched in 1973 and has 4.0% alcohol volume.
                    Genesee Ice Beer

Genesee Ice Beer was introduced in 1993 and has 5.5% alcohol by volume.[9]
                    Dundee Ales & Lagers

In 1994, Genesee introduced J.W. Dundee's Honey Brown., which has proven to be one of their most popular brews. It won a Gold Medal at the 2004 World Beer Cup. In 2006 High Falls added two new beers to the J.W. Dundee's family, J.W. Dundee's American Pale Ale and J.W. Dundee's American Amber Lager. In June 2008, the company announced a re-branding of the J.W. Dundee line, which is now called Dundee Ales and Lagers.[10]
                    Seagram's Escapes

Along with the formation of North American Breweries, Genesee purchased all of the brand rights to Seagram's Escapes Flavored Coolers in the US. Seagram's Escapes are part of the Flavored Malt Beverage category and provide a variety of flavored alcoholic beverages. As of November 2009, all Seagram's Escapes are produced out of the Rochester based facility.
                    Rock Wall Brewing Co

In late 2010, Genesee Brewing developed a new product line under the Rock Wall brewing name. Rock Wall Brewing produces a high alcohol malt liquor product, known as Dog Bite High Gravity.
                    Imported beverages

Genesee had an exclusive contract to import Cerveza Imperial from Costa Rica before its 2012 acquistion by Cerveceria Costa Rica.
                    Contract brewing

Genesee brews for Blue Point Brewing Company, Seven Kings Brewery, and Narragansett Brewing Company.

Genesee is also a regional brewer for Mike's Hard Lemonade and other malt beverage products, with Genesee Brewing Company producing almost all of the Mike's sold to the east coast market.

Genesee also is beginning to brew and distribute Labatt Blue Light Lime and Labatt Ice beer from the Rochester, NY Brewery.[11]

Genesee contract manufactures Mountain Brew Beer Ice, and Stew Brew for Stewart's Shops, along with Big Flats 1901 for Walgreens.

Sainsbury's American Pale Ale in the UK is brewed by the Genesee Brewery. This is a 5.3% ABV own branded under their 'Taste the difference' label.

I've had it, but have no recollection of my impression. Their 12 Horse ale was a favorite of my brother. I liked Dundee's Honey Brown, but haven't had it in years.

I realize this thread is old but I could not think of the name of the crappiest cheap beer I ever drank back in the early 1990's, back east, was called Meister Brau. Tasted like cooked cabbage and wet newspaper. Randomly came to me tonight. Anyone recall this?

                              Old Milwaukee or Huber

Both taste somewhat palatable but will leave you with skill-saw headaches and explosive diarrhea the next day.
