Terry Pratchett made a documentary about it a few years ago that was very moving.
Choosing to do it is not an easy thing to do or one thats taken lightly. Your example of soldiers is valid, but they are mostly young, so their mindset will be different to say, someone in their 60s who has had a good life but doesn't want to be ravaged by a debilitating disease. The soldiers will still be able to visualise a life, children etc.

A fine documentary.
Even though I'm too young [and able-bodied] to be contemplating end of life decisions, it's still comforting for me to know that I have the option to die with peace and dignity.
Here's hoping that the rest of the country, and the rest of the world, will finally come to understand the importance of death with dignity for those that are truly suffering with no chance of recovery.Words of Wisdom

I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
