Terry Pratchett made a documentary about it a few years ago that was very moving.

Choosing to do it is not an easy thing to do or one thats taken lightly. Your example of soldiers is valid, but they are mostly young, so their mindset will be different to say, someone in their 60s who has had a good life but doesn't want to be ravaged by a debilitating disease. The soldiers will still be able to visualise a life, children etc.
This one I think, yes, it is moving.

        A fine documentary.

Even though I'm too young [and able-bodied] to be contemplating end of life decisions, it's still comforting for me to know that I have the option to die with peace and dignity.

Here's hoping that the rest of the country, and the rest of the world, will finally come to understand the importance of death with dignity for those that are truly suffering with no chance of recovery.

thanks for posting that. The info is invaluable.....at least to me.....for personal reasons.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

A little addendum to that documentary... For those that don't reside in areas where euthanasia is legal, Exit International suggests obtaining Pentobarbitone [trade name: Nembutal]

Thats the one, I actually cried at that bloke's story and watching everything up to the end. He had thought it all through and decided when the time was right to end it. The whole documentary really moved me.
