    Free Music

No, not PirateBay. Stuff the artist meant to give away. Here's a few resources I like. They bring back the old thrill of exploration like before the internet, when you went into a record store, and bought based on album cover, song name, and song length, only you don't have to wait until you get home to find out it's a turd, and it doesn't cost money unless you want it to.

The Sirens Sound blog - Post rock and harder ambient

Alma Danada blog - A sister publication of Sirens Sound, focusing on Portuguese artists

    Webbed Hand Records - Ambient

Jazz Online - Vintage jazz from the 40s and earlier. Out of copyright in Europe. Follow your conscience elsewhere

Digital Library of Appalachia - Old time, hillbilly, and other old country. Not exclusively music. It's a general culture site.

I think Pretty Lights should get an honorable mention.

When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Nah, as a musical act. Lots of their stuff is free. And it's actually good.
