WTF did they do to google?

Those bastards. Don't they understand that it hard enough for an older person to use this dam computer. Once we learn something don't ****ing change it on us PLEASE. All the outfits do it. My email as well. anyway.....

So the google page used to come up normally with the big google sign in the center of the page and you type in what you want right under it. Now the same thing appears EXCEPT as soon as I type in one freaking letter the page changes and there is a small google on the upper left and then the area to type in what you are searching for. That's not a big deal until you add this to the mix. > When I type into this new search box something to search for and click on the search button nothing happens. [ Note the "web" word is grey and not blue like all the other selections]. I have to click on images or any other selection on the far left side and then click on web again for the search to complete. WTF is this all about? Why did they change it? And how can I overcome this? I sure would love to get this fixed. My wife has the same problem on her computer. HELP!!

    thanks,
    PP

    ps...don't get old

edit. My wife says she has to go thru the same thing except that she doesn't have to click on images [or another selection] and then back to web for her search to come up. Could my problem be with my computer or my fingers?

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I don't use Google, but I'm sort of getting the same behavior. The input box jumps to the top of the screen, but nothing is greyed out. Did you try hitting enter after typing?

I use DuckDuckGo. It works, and doesn't track you

the word web is already greyed out and it won't work if I hit enter or click on the search button. Another problem I get is the dam auto filler outer. I type in a few letters and it completes the word BUT ITS NEVER THE WORD I WANT! Sometimes I have to delete the few wrong letters a few times before I get the word typed in correctly. This is one way to help Bing get more customers I suppose.

I just put ducky at the top of my favorites. thanks
But I still would like to get google working if I can.

I have no idea what's going on with your setup. Do you have some kind of toolbar or addon that's maybe dicking things up? I'm getting suggestions, but no autocomplete.

lx... thanks for the duckduckgo site. Just tried it- EXCELLENT!

The Internet is going to hell in a hand-basket! You can't do anything anymore unless you hide behind a proxy. Things are getting so bad it won't surprise me if the whole damn this shuts down.

Be sure to checkout the different tools they have. !bangs are especially nice. Makes it easy to use other engines, or sites. The SnusOn !bang is borked though.

One of the first things to do when you're having a web browser problem is just clear your cache and other temporary internet files.

What web browser are you using?

Mine does the same, it pisses me off no end! I use chrome so the default home page is google, when you type into the search box everything you describe happens, however if you just type google.com of whatever in the url bar it takes you to normal google which solves the problem.

Hey Skell; if you go to Chrome's settings menu, there is a checkbox to turn instant search on or off.

To turn off auto suggestion of words, which really are wrong way too much, turn off the option "Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar" in the privacy section I think.

                              PP and Skell

Type in google.com and get to the normal search page

Once it is in front of you.........copy the URL address (mine was https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&tab=mw&authuser=0)

                              Go to your start menu

                              Select "Control Panel"

                              Then select "Network and internet"

                              Then Internet options"

Paste the Google address in the home page box and save the changes.

See if that does not work
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers
