I was able to understand and try all the suggestions and I still have the same problem....except that I found how to turn off the auto complete. Which makes it way less aggravating. thanks

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I am not sure what you guys are experiencing, especially if you turned auto complete off. I am running google in IE9 at work, and running Firefox at home. Google operates exactly as it always has. By turning off auto complete you are talking about turning off the google option of search while you type, correct? If not, thats what you need to do. When I type in the google search box, I get suggestions right underneath, but before I turned off the option to auto search as I type, it would change as soon as I typed the first letter.

If you go to google.com, and click on "settings" in the bottom right hand corner, then choose "search settings", on that page you can check "Never show instant results". Is this any help?

I just found that option and it doesn't make any difference....it still sucks.

However, apparently when I first asked my wife if her computer works correctly on google she said no. I just checked her computer myself and hers works fine. So it has to be my computer. ;(

PP do you maybe have some kind of spy or adware that could have been downloaded onto your computer? Do random words on forums or articles have blue hyperlinked words or anything? i just got on google and when you start typing it jumps to the top of the page but lets me keep typing. Perhaps you have default search to images?

To turn off auto suggestion of words, which really are wrong way too much, turn off the option "Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar" in the privacy section I think.

Type in google.com and get to the normal search page

Once it is in front of you.........copy the URL address (mine was https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&tab=mw&authuser=0)

              Go to your start menu

              Select "Control Panel"

              Then select "Network and internet"

              Then Internet options"

Paste the Google address in the home page box and save the changes.

See if that does not work
              Cheers both.

OK, I have Iolo service thru Dell and I called them. You know the usual india connection.....well they remotely checked it out and apparently I had an IE update from IE 10 to version 11 about a week ago. He uninstalled the version 11 and put it back to version 10 and it works fine now. He says some computers have glitches with the IE 11 version.

I suppose what pisses me off the most is the fact that in the late 60's I went to school for 2 years to learn how to design computers. All the math was just too boreing so I quit and got a job that really paid well and didn't pursue the computer career any further. The electronics field was just then changing over from tubes to transistors. Hell, no one needed a computer at the time so wtf did I need to learn how to design them? Who would have thought the day would come when everyone would have [or more accurately NEED] a computer, except maybe Steve Jobs. OH stupid me. After quitting that school the only electronics I was into was HiFi and TV. I can diagnose and sometimes repair that shit but the dam computer baffles me. I can't hardly figure some of this shit out. Even most of the terms are foreign to me. So I keep a list of things I need done or I have questions about and when a friend comes over sometimes he can fix it...but not always. He hasn't been by to get any snus for a few months so the list is growing. I can deal with the little shit until he shows up. This particular issue I knew Iolo was responsible to fix but I hate like hell to call them because of the reps and the communication problems.

In the end I suppose I can only blame myself for not staying into computers. Anyway, if anyone else has this problem go back to IE version 10.

                Thanks for the help

edit; I'm pretty sure that any one of the links that Trembly posted may have fixed it as well...and still use the version 11. Iolo tends to simply fix the computer however it is easiest to fix. At this point I don't really care. Hopefully I'll be dead and buried before version 12 come out.

I bought my wife a cheap toshiba computer last xmas. It was windows 8. the thing locked up while installing the initial updates. I took the dam thing back to bestbuy and they gave me a new one. I used it for 2 or 3 days and just hated the dam tiles so I returned it and got myself a new dell ultrabook and made sure it was windows 7 and gave her my old dell which is a really nice studio xps that is even today still a realitively current model. I really hated those tiles on that Toshiba and couldn't get used to them. THATS what I mean about changing things around and old people. We know what we know and have gotten used too. I guess its true.....like they say....you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I'm the head of the I.T. department here at my work, and I have a lot of people complain about the Metro interface on Windows 8 a lot. I think the tiles are annoying too.

Someone found an application that will basically disable Metro, and enable a more classic looking "Start" menu. He loves it.

I'm not an old guy, but I think interface changes that suck definitely suck. They should make things easier to use, not harder.
