Is teen addiction to porn a growing problem?

This is an interesting topic for me personally, because my 16yr old son has been testing the porn waters with his smartphone. I've had talks with him about this, and trust me...I was 16 once and I certainly remember how it was, we had Penthouse and getting the "special" filters for the scrambled cable tv channels, lol. The truth is, I didn't really have an issue UNTIL he started getting nekkies from these little girls he attends school with...and let me tell you, these little girls aren't built like the little girls of my time, and they are sending very explicit pics. I'm a realist and know he's going to hook up with them, etc, etc...hell, we all did at that age. It's what we did, lol. The problem is that when these MINOR girls are sending these types of photos to a phone that my son has, but I pay for....that's not cool. Of course I deleted the pics but not until I had a talk with the parents of the girls, and showed them the texts. trust me...they were appreciative. Not sure if I did the right thing, but it seems that all involved have moved on and are living their lives as if nothing happened. The best part..they aren't using my kids phone as a delivery method. Hopefully, it's being done in person :-)

I suppose the real point in telling this story is that if you're parent of a teen, you need to make sure you're protecting yourself from any legal issues that might arise in today's "easy access" electronic age.

I don't care that we are both over 18 years old I would be very ashamed if she started sending me pictures over the phone....she lives a few steps away from me anyways. The good part (it sounds like) about your son is that he is not a "bro". Your son had total and absolute power to ruin this(these) girl(s) lives with this picture and he did not. It sounds like you have raised him to not be a douche which is pretty rare today. You understand your son is probably getting with some of these chicks and probably likes to watch some good old 21st century porn. Keep up the good work.

Thanks...I try to do the right thing as a Father, and try to do so while remembering that I was once that age and was BUCK ass wild. Far more than my son, so I'm thankful in that regard. Today's tech makes it easier for boys/girls to do shit like this, and as minors open their respective parents up to certain legal liabilities. I just try to keep him (and the girls) from doing irreparable harm to themselves, their reputations and mine, lol

To give you an idea of how wide spread e-porn is, just drop down the history menu on any computer... you will be surprised. I use to work in educational IT... it's not only the students... the teachers are into it too!

A word to the wise... there are several pieces of software out there that erase your history at any time factor you set. I erase mine at least twice a day... not because I live on porn sites... but to keep anyone that uses my machine to see what I have been looking at!

Oh... and I also hide behind a proxy server!

I have set it to erase all the time. Remember, porn is essential in the armed forces. I don't know a single male that doesn't look at porn. Any male that says they don't or haven't is a liar. As a parent it must be done responsibly i.e. deleting your history, especially on a phone.

Hey HEY!! I never look at porn. Actually, I can't.
Due to my wifes in home job, at any given moment there is a chance my computers can be taken by the authorities and searched specifically for shit like that. If I do ever end up on a porn site by mistake I get out right quick. They understand, with my limited knowledge of the computer, that I can end up on a porn site by mistake but I must not stay there for more than 1 or 2 minutes....I guess so they know I'm not wanking to it. Besides it seems like looking at porn is probably the quickest way to get a virus in your computer, I think. Dealing with children I've always kept my ass off of the porn sites.

DCFS is here right now.....for our suprize inspection. [that they called to let us know was going to happen today..] Not that she will go thru our computers but have one person even suggest that we look at porn and they will come get the computers and scour them to make sure we aren't. I suppose mild porn might be ok but imo its best not to have any porn at all. For the most part they would be looking for child porn.

Besides, I just don't need it so it never interested me. Not that I don't like looking at naked women in a photo but to sit here and watch for 5 or 10 minutes is something I don't give 2 shits about....never did.

No, porn isn't illegal but when dealing with children would you want you provider searching porn sites? Better to stay away from it IMO. Besides porn doesn't do much for me. Thou I like to take a peek at naked women I don't see much sense at watching videos for more than a minute. The only naked photos I have on my computers is of old girlfriends that have contacted me thru facebook or wherever.....there is only a few and they are well hidden.....from the wife.

You're right. It's just becoming an issue for us as we speak. They're getting their own tablets for Christmas and the eldest is well on his way to reading and writing. So if anybody can advise a good blocking programme or whether safe search works, I'll be grateful. When the boys a lot older there'll be the issue of how we control any viewing of pornography.
