'Duck Dynasty' Star Also Under Fire for African-American Statements

Phil Robertson's anti-gay comments aren't the only part of his interview with GQ causing controversy.

The 67-year-old "Duck Dynasty" star was suspended by A&E Wednesday for calling homosexuality sinful — and putting gay people in same category as terrorists. While those quotes quickly went viral, it wasn't his only brow-raising statement in the interview; he also implied that African Americans were happier living under Jim Crow laws.

Obama says family on Duck Dynasty seems like ‘pretty fun bunch’
    The Hill ^

December 19, 2013, 12:03 pm Obama says family on Duck Dynasty seems like ‘pretty fun bunch’
    By Justin Sink
President Obama said the “Duck Dynasty” family seemed like a “pretty fun bunch” in a People magazine interview conducted before Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the reality show family, was suspended from the popular television show over anti-gay comments.
In the People interview, the president was asked who he'd rather spend the day with — the “Duck Dynasty” family or Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Obama has previously criticized West's antics, but offered praise for both reality show families in the People interview.
“The Duck Dynasty family seems like a pretty fun bunch, so I can see how that would be pretty fun. Kanye's music is outstanding, though. I've got a lot of his stuff on my iPad. If it was a concert, then I might not mind listening to him,” Obama said.
The comment was made before an interview with GQ's Drew Magary was published Wednesday, in which Robertson called homosexuality sinful and illogical.
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he said.
Gay rights organizations have criticized the comments, and A&E, which airs the "Duck Dynasty" show, suspended Robertson.
Robertson’s comment comes shortly after the president was applauded by LGBT groups for announcing that the presidential delegation to the Sochi Olympics would include two openly gay female athletes — seen as a protest of a Russia's recently implemented anti-LGBT laws.
“In the selection of this delegation, we are sending the message that the United States is a diverse place,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said.
Carney added that the president has “made no bones about the fact that we strongly oppose and are offended by the anti-LGBT legislation.”
Some Republican lawmakers have protested Robertson's suspension by A&E.
“It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended,” Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said in a statement to The Weekly Standard.
Obama has previously criticized Kanye West, who Obama once famously called a “jackass.”
In a recent interview, the president said he was troubled by a shifting culture where kids were paying attention to what Kardashian was wearing.

Glenn Beck Makes a Very Exciting Offer to the Cast of ‘Duck Dynasty’

“Duck Dynasty on TheBlaze” has a nice ring to it, according to Glenn Beck.
One day after Phil Robertson’s comments about homosexuality earned him an indefinite suspension from the hit series “Duck Dynasty” on A&E, Beck offered the entire Robertson family a place on his own network.
“[All the other networks] will fold to pressure,” he said. “They will all fold to sponsors. They will all fold to money because they are all in over their eyeballs are debt … the only reason why Phil was put on hiatus and not the rest is because it is a money-printing machine.”
Beck said as he sees it, the Robertson family has a choice to make.
“If I am in the Robertson family, I sit down with my family and say, ‘Is this the way we’re going to [let] him be treated? Is this who we are? Are we going to [be] quiet because he has an opinion about the scriptures?’”

This whole situation makes me sad. And theres just so many dam reasons why. Suspending Phil is so wrong.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Phil's comments were actually pretty tame, coming from an old, redneck, Christian from Louisiana. He wasn't the Pope, for Chrissake. I think he's showed a lot of class for speaking his mind without resorting to bad words. Anyone who's shocked and surprised at those statements coming from him, should be kicked in the nuts for being stupid. We used to respect freedom of speech, dammit! But then, I'm gettin kinda old and crusty, too....now where's my Red Man?..

This is the kind of thread where guys like me are better off just to bite their tongue.

I grew up in the Fifties and I learned that I may be one of the few remaining dinosaurs from a time that is gone and mostly forgotten.

Most people today in the USA don't need or really want to hear from people from those times.

And.....I like this place. I'm better off now just sticking to Swedish Snus.

( but I'm about to take a trip back to My Fifties and enjoy a big long lost love from my old past days: Cigars.)

We suspend people off of TV shows for saying they are against being gay.....but most politicians run on the grounds that Creationism should be taught in schools and that homosexuality is a sin.

I have nothing against people being gay and think its an incredibly illogical train of thought to look down on them but it's pretty sad that we go in an uproar over what someone on a REALITY TV SHOW says but do not hold politicians to the same standards. I remember one of the primaries they asked everyone is they thought evolution was a lie and most of them raised their hands....they should have been laughed off of the stage.

Regardless of my beliefs and opinions, I am so sick of the PC thought police. The politically correct nonsense is such a disaster.

American needs to toughen the **** up.

People are always going to judge and speak their mind on the ways of others, but it is not that serious.

If you take a dick up your ass you are a tough bastard, that is fact. How could his words hurt more than a big slong?

                Just saying you guys.

I just love all the postings I see on facebook about this garbage. Who cares? It's a guy from a reality TV show and somehow people feel such a strong connection to need to voice their opinion about this guys opinion. Put that effort into impeaching obama or something holy shit don't waste it on arguing if you're for gay marriage, against it, for it but respect people who are against it blah blah blah, who in the hell decided what these people say or do is important anyways? Because they have a TV show? So did those kids fom West Virginia until they started dropping like flys

In wake of 'Duck Dynasty' star suspension, Sheriff Miller tells A&E they are not welcome (GA)

The suspension of “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson by the A&E Network after making controversial remarks in GQ magazine regarding homosexuality has been called a business decision. But now Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller is making a business decision of his own.
Miller announced on his personal Facebook page Friday night that A&E would no longer be welcomed to film or produce any of its programs or series with the help of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office or its facilities. "A&E has suspended Phil Robertson for talking about his conservative Christian beliefs," Miller wrote." None of us are without sin and I am not judging anyone. I am sure A&E made what they believe is a good business decision. Many people who disagree with A&E might choose to remain silent and there was a time when I might have done the same, but no longer. In my mind the punishment is unreasonable.
"I know it will not matter to A&E, but it will make me feel better. A&E has produced more than a half dozen programs with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. They will not do any more with my assistance while I am sheriff. It is time for someone other than Hollywood and the news media to stand up for what is right!"

Charlie Sheen unloads on 'Duck Dynasty' star’s comments on homosexuality
The New York Daily News ^

The “Duck Dynasty” controversy just got a major shot in the arm.
Actor Charlie Sheen exploded on Phil Robertson for the reality TV star's totally non-winning comments on homosexuality.
In a long rambling message on Twitpic Saturday, Sheen calls the "Duck Dynasty" star "Mallard brained" and a "shower dodger" and tells him his comments were "abhorrently and mendaciously unforgivable.”
"The idea that you have a job outside of dirt-clod stacking is a miracle," the "Anger Management" star writes. "Shame on you. You're the only surviving brain donor I've ever known."
Robertson has received a lot of criticism for his comments in an upcoming GQ article. A&E has indefinitely suspended the 67-year-old after he equated same-sex relationships with bestiality.
"It seems like, to me, a vagina - as a man - would be more desirable than a man's anus, that's just me," Robertson said.
"I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical."
Sheen decided to shine his very large and noticeable limelight on Robertson and defend his many friends that Robertson offended.
"The only thing you should ever be in charge of building is a hole in the ground the exact size of your head," he wrote. "Perhaps your beard would fit as well if you plucked out the army of scabies and bull weevils sequestered deep in its sarcophagus of dander and weasel pelts."
Sheen wasn't done - informing Robertson he needs to "make serious amends" to the people he radically offended and the only “Dynasty” he's attached to "might be the re-runs of that dated show."
Sheen, who knows a thing or two about how one’s comments can lead to his removal from a hit TV show, saved his most bizarre and pointed quips for the end of the post.
"On the eight day when I was whittling my cosmic banjo, I'm pretty sure YOU were the scattered dross I then used to light a fire and locate the nearest Andy Gump," he said.
Robertson does have his backers, as former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin stated her support of Robertson's free speech.
"Free speech is an endangered species," Palin said in a Facebook post. "Those 'intolerants' hatin' and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us."
The family is also reportedly considering leaving A&E due to Robertson's suspension.
