My wife bought me the new 3G iPhone. Amazing how technology is advancing in leaps and bounds. I'm posting from it now.

I wish the world's perspective on smoking alternatives could be so progessive.

I'm even able to log into AS400 at work with a small free app. I've previously been using the same cell for almost 7 years. I thought I was a bad ass having a camera LOL.

So nice to check up on the gang from anywhere. If they're available in your area get one. We cancelled our land line at home already to offset the cost.

No Apple for me, but I dig technology. The next 20 years should be pretty interesting.

I'm a Helio fan. Uses Sprint;s 3G network, puts AT&T's 3G network to shame. best of all worlds. use the best network without ever having to deal with Sprint's nightmare customer service.

Just lost my cell phone this weekend while in Sacramento. helio replacing for free even though I upgraded my phone only 2 months ago. As long as Apple is stuck with AT&T, they can do without my business.

I'm all about technology but the IPhone is over-rated and in general the north american cell phone market is way behind europe and asia.

I don't see how it's over rated. I'd say over-saturated as far as advertising.

Look at the look-a-likes that are out. Verizon has one and someone else too. I don't recall the specif phones, but you get my point. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

As far as functionality goes the real time GPS alone could justify the $200 price tag. Granted it is not as fully functional as a stand alone GPS.

Maybe I'm over impressed since I haven't upgraded in so long.
About the only improvements I could imagine would be cutting the umbilical from iTunes and a real keyboard.

The speed is great as far as internet. I've also never been over seas to compare. I wouldn't mind improvement there though. North America has issues I think with population density and competing technology. It's hard to blanket the entire continent when there are different providers and GSM vs CDMA. I'm no cellular network pro, but I could imagine a lot of capital investment to do it right.

I decided against the iphone for a lot of reasons, one of which that writing applications for the iphone is a total bitch.

I'm not too sure about the 3g version, but the last time I upgraded it was the iphone or the 8525. I went with the 8525 not only for the application development, but I can use a VPN tunnel into my system and take over my PC with RDP - so I can check on things, program, etc from just about anywhere.

I also have a slingbox, and as of right now, there isn't a slingplayer for the iphone - and it's neat to be able to watch your TV on your phone (or another PC with the player software).

Well Bakerbarber I guess I kind of have my biases due to the whole living in europe thing and coming back home for the summers and looking at the junk selection there is here (I'm sure it's not much different from Canada in the US). For North America the Iphone is good in the sense that the mobile phone companies don't offer the wide variety of phones like the do in other regions, and yeah I guess if there was like 90% of the population uses cell phones there'd be a more exciting and competitive market.

Out of curiosity, in the US when you get an Iphone 3G do you buy it straight up for $200 or is that on some contract? and if so what's the monthly plan like?
