Super Bowl XLVIII: Denver's Surgical Passing Attack vs. Seattle's Brash Secondary
"Omaha" versus "You mad, bro?"
Super Bowl XLVIII between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks is setting up to be a classic contest in which the surgical Peyton Manning will try to perhaps cap off his career and legacy against the brash--and best (ask Richard Sherman)--Seattle secondary that has smothered the league's best wide receivers all season long.
Simply put, the league's top offense (Denver) will face the league's top defense (Seattle). Something has to give.

NFC title game draws big national television audience
Seattle leads all local markets for viewership of Seahawks vs. 49ers
The thrilling NFC Championship Game that saw the Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 Sunday averaged 55.9 million television viewers nationwide on FOX Sports, up 17 percent from the game in a similar time slot last season.
With a 28.5 national rating and 44 share, it also was the highest rated non-overtime NFC title game since 1997. Viewership peaked at 60.3 million when Richard Sherman deflected a pass to Malcolm Smith for a game-clinching interception.
Seattle led all local markets in viewership with a 53.9 rating and 85 share on KCPQ (Channel 13), followed by San Francisco (47.5/78), Sacramento (46.7/72), Portland (39.5/63) and Milwaukee (38.9/57).
Ratings account for the percentage of households with televisions that are watching a certain program. Shares measure the percentage of TVs in use at the time that are tuned to that program.
Viewership of the AFC Championship, the early game Sunday between Denver and New England, also was up big from last season with a 28.1 national rating and 51 share, the second-highest marks for an AFC title game in 17 years.
The Broncos’ 26-16 victory averaged 51.3 million viewers nationwide on CBS, up 22 percent from last year.

Seahawks dominate Denver from start to finish to win Super Bowl
Defense and special teams win it for Seattle in convincing fashion.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — They shut down Peyton Manning and shut up their critics.
And then, in the happy celebration of the Seahawks’ first Super Bowl title in their 38-year history, defensive end Red Bryant stood up in the locker room and issued a challenge to everyone within earshot.
“This team has got to go down as one of the best defenses of all time,’’ Bryant yelled after Seattle’s 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. “It’s got to. And the best thing about it is they called us misfits, overachievers, said that nobody wanted us. But now we’re the best.’’
That they are, this merry collection of players, many of whom were low-round draft choices and undrafted free agents and now they can call themselves the best in the world.

First in flight
Seahawks crush Broncos for first Super Bowl win
Linebacker Malcolm Smith returned an interception of a Peyton Manning pass 69 yards for a touchdown late in the first half Sunday, and Percy Harvin returned the opening kickoff of the second half 87 yards for another TD.
The Seahawks led 36-0 before Denver finally scored on the last play of the third quarter.
Manning was 34-of-49 passing for 280 yards, but most of that came after Seattle had all but put the game away. He was flustered by Seattle's fierce defense for most of the first half, throwing two interceptions. The second fluttered into Smith's hands after Cliff Avril struck the five-time NFL MVP's arm as he was releasing the ball.
Second-year quarterback Russell Wilson was coolly efficient for the Seahawks, throwing for two touchdowns.Last edited by Crow; 03-02-14, 11:04 PM.Words of Wisdom
