    Walmart managers dumb as hell...

Teen tricks Walmart stores out of nearly $30,000
KFOR TV Oklahoma City ^ |

NORMAN, Okla. – A 17-year-old is facing charges after he tricked three Walmart stores out of nearly $30,000.
Police aren’t releasing his name because he is a juvenile, but Norman police finally caught up to him Jan. 30 in Norman and arrested him.
The teen stole from the Walmart stores in Dec. after conning managers into believing he worked there.
“You would think a store manager would catch on to something like that,” said shopper Vernon Boyce.
After reading the police report, you realize no one noticed or suspected anything. The report says at a Moore Walmart he “…acted as if he was a general manager from another store.” Wearing the company’s name tag and all, he told the manager “…he was doing an inventory of the store before general managers came to inspect them after the holidays.”
Surviellance cameras caught the teenager. The report says he was “…alone in the cash office…” It says he took “… multiple bundles of cash, stuffing them inside his pockets and clothes.” He even hugged the manager before he walked out.
Sgt. Jeremey Lewis says this is one for the books.
“He’s obviously confident in what he’s doing and has a good story,” said Sgt. Lewis. The teen knew the drill because police say he worked at a Walmart in Oklahoma City until he was fired for stealing money.
After that, he showed up in his old uniform at an Edmond store. Managers actually put him to work on a register. He pocketed more than $3,000 that day.
“I really would have been too nervous, too scared to even try it,” said Boyce.
When the fraudster played the same role in the Norman Walmart, the con was over. The Cleveland County District Attorney is working on the case now. No word yet on if he will be tried as an adult.

    That is....awesome.
I would never condone stealing or doing something deceptive like this but this kid has balls made out of the same material as Thor's hammer.
After i left Sears i thought about how easy it would be to just wonder around. I knew how to open the register and if you've been in a sears lately you can be alone at a register pretty easily. But to actually do it. Put this kid to work somewhere.

In my line of work I have to access all sorts of businesses. I'm appalled at the lack of security, even in downtown Boston. It's pretty amazing what a confident look and walk will get you. I've been in plenty of places that I didn't have access to...technically. I won't post the most amazing stuff I've seen because I had to go through a pretty serious background check to get clearance to the parts of the building I needed to be in...but it blew my mind. I've seen some kinda scary stuff too. From missiles to monkeys. The monkeys in the primate research center were pretty scary...AND it's hidden in a neighborhood. The houses are pretty spaced out but still, I'd be willing to bet most of the residents don't even know it's there.

The places that really weird me out are the hospitals. One can very easily get in via a loading dock. Sure, there are cameras but if you know what you're doing there are always a workaround. Throw on a set of scrubs and you can have the run of the place. Mind you, I don't think I could get out with a baby but I've strolled around the hospital pharmacy several times searching for a customer. I don't think it would be difficult to fill my pockets with stuff if I wanted to.

Of course, having access to just about any uniform you can imagine would help. There's tens of thousands of people in America that can easily make off with a uniform of their choice and all it would take is a bit of confidence and a good story to get yourself in some serious S. Frankly I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
