Is that a thumb bell on that bike? All it needs is a flower basket, and handlebar streamers to complete the picture :^D

It might be a girls bike, to boot. It was his first time without training wheels.

Presumably Putin will stop with just absorbing the Crimea peninusla. Unless he is just irredeemably stupid invading the rest of The Ukraine is right out because the resulting hornet's nest of bad PR, an inflamed population, and a hostile world press has no conceivable upside at all.

Crimea was given away in the 50's and a lot of Russians hated that. For Putin to walk away with it would be a very prestigious success. Is there an election coming up in Russia? Genuine question because I don't know.

I like Rob Ford. As long as he does his job properly I wouldn't give a monkeys. He's definately entertaining.

That was a most peculiar circumstance. From the frequently conflicting sources I can find the transfer was done as the opening gambit of a complex political offensive against the Turks which were beginning to merge into the western sphere of influence. The result ultimately was the stationing of U.S. strategic nuclear forces in Turkey in the late 50s which were in turn used as a bargaining chip by JFK to help end the Cuban Missile Crisis. Makes yer head ache don't it? Makes Tin Pot Putin's land re-grab look sledgehammer simple by comparison.

My question is what do Russians actually vote for ... is it just for which top job Putin gets next? Because they had a constitution that says you cannot serve more than 2 terms as president so now he's been:

                  Prime Minister : 1999-2000
                  President: 2000-2008
                  Prime Minister 2008-2012
President 2012-2018 (presidential term now extended to 6 years ... so no election soon!)
                  Squeezyjohn

Sometimes wrong and sometimes right .... but ALWAYS certain!!!

Just very briefly: This is NOT occupation. Look and see: http://englishrussia.com/2014/03/01/...ine-yesterday/

                    THIS is occupation: http://www.vtjp.org/background/imagesgaza.php

I hope we can agree there is a slight difference between real occupation of a country and the peacekeeping mission in Crimea.

EDIT: This invader is clearly having unclean thoughts... Click image for larger version

Two terms, or two consecutive terms? Maybe they really like Putin. He won some points in my book by taking Snowden, and poking the US in the eye.

Something has greatly surprised me about this thread.
Nobody has really taken any issue with what has been said here - I honestly didn't post this thread with the intention to stir.
Maybe I'm not the only one that is sick and tired of being fed the usual 'us and them' bullshit by our governments and media.

                            Reuters:
The naming by Kiev's new government of one of the country's richest men, metal baron Sergei Taruta, as Donetsk regional governor is a sign that powerful oligarchs - many of whom once supported former President Yanukovych - are now behind the new authorities.

Hold onto your wallet my European friends, you are about to have your pocket picked.

KIEV, Ukraine — In the continuing Western effort to support the new government in Ukraine, the European Union said on Wednesday that it would offer an aid package to Ukraine worth as much as $15 billion over the next two years.

The offer comes on top of the $1 billion in American loan guarantees to ease Ukraine’s economic transition announced here on Tuesday by Secretary of State John Kerry.

Someone please check my math. The way I calculate it, the EU taxpayer will be giving the equivalent of 248 Euros to every man , woman and child in Ukraine. The population of Ukraine is about 44 million.
