Earlier in the thread, we mentioned the possibility that Ukraine might voluntarily split apart like Czechoslovakia. Do you and most of you countrymen view that split as a good thing? If you could go back in time would you want to do it over again or do something differently?
Yes to all the questions. But after the black eye and concussion healed it was found I also suffered some neck damage. Wearing a cervical collar now, waiting to start special treatment (electro rehabilitation(?), maybe other things, too) in a week or so.

In Slovakia, many (there was no referendum, just polls and those are often manipulated) were against the split from the former federation, myself included. In the 20 years afterwards, though, vast majority (again, polls only) see this as the best thing we could ever do, because without the Czechs sucking us dry our economy - and quality of life - grew much faster. The difference between Czechia and Slovakia in 1993 was 30+ per cent, nowadays it is about 2 to 5 per cent and falling. If nothing changes, the levels should equal out in a very few years and then it´s a fair struggle who would be better off. So, the Slovaks won by the split and the Czechs lost. Ironically now, when we are not citizens in the same country any more, there is much less enmity between our nations. I do not think anybody would like to go back and change anything big. Happy endings tend to cause that

Yes, those two got tired of kicking me on the ground and attacked another person on another street, out of direct sight but just some 50 metres away; police caught them in the act, because they got a call from somebody while I was being attacked. The bastards will probably go to jail (depending on the outcome of their court trials, nobody can really predict that...). Their only explanation for the attack was that they were stoned.

I am healing well. All the visible signs are long gone, only neck problems remain. Doctor explained it was a neck trauma even though all the kicks were to the head, none to the neck per se. Neck seems to absorb hits to the head and if you are not a young trained fighter, you are deemed to sprain, twist, pull, tear or otherwise damage something in there. As long as nothing is broken (fortunately that is my case), this should heal well with physiotherapy.

But we should end the off topic and get back to Ukraine. I have a question to our American friends.

Do you think the USA should invest into a direct or proxy war against Russia for Crimea to be Ukrainian? Because in my opinion it´s a Russian territory with predominantly Russian population that was given by the dumbest of all Soviet dictators, Khrustchev, as a gift to appease his native Ukraine.

Would you vote for a president/party who wants to start another war to "save" Crimea (or other parts of Ukraine that vote in referendum to rejoin Russia)? Is this worth for you in America? I live in a country bordering with Ukraine, so I am not impartial - I definitely do not wish any American war that close to home.

EDIT: Maybe you can afford another war now. I just read...
(Reuters) - U.S. household net worth jumped to a new high at the end of last year, as the value of real estate and share holdings rose and bank accounts swelled. The Federal Reserve said on Thursday net worth increased 3.8 percent to $80.66 trillion in the fourth quarter, eclipsing a previous record high.

I feel that it's a regional issue, and none of our business. We should not get involved.

Make sure you really pamper that eye! If anything visually or internally feels off go to a eye specialist.

My thoughts are that Ukraine should remain intact but with guarantees that the Russian military can also have a place. There is no way around that.

Any new borders should be voted on by the entire country as a whole not just Russian dominant population sectors. If the Ukrainians bend on this it could open more border disputes in other countries.

I dont believe the USA or the EU should waste a life in a direct war.
