Saudi Sheikh Issues Fatwa Against ... Food Buffets

Saudi scholar says buffet meals are Haram
A member of the Standing Committee of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan, said that buffets offered at restaurants are haram.
The basis of his statement was that buffet meals have a fixed price, but the quantity of food that can be consumed is unknown or unlimited.
According to Sabq news, the senior scholar said that the quantity of food and the price of the meals must be clear and known. He was responding to a listener‘s question about buffets on Holy Quran Radio.
“One must not simply go to a restaurant that offers an all-you-can-eat meal for say SR 10 or SR 50 without mentioning any conditions…this is prohibited,” said Sheikh Fawzan.

Now, no buffets?!? These people are so miserable with such stupid and pointless edicts; I suppose this is why so many are eager strap on explosive vests. (Just thinking out loud.)

I'd be strapping on a feed bag.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Note to self: In case of jihad..........hold all secret meetings at the Po's Chinese Buffet

When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

He has a point. If buffets looked like the picture in the op, I wouldn't eat anywhere else. As it is, they're of questionable quality, and with questionable handling. Selling at ultracheap prices gives more temptation for adding things like cat, and not mentioning it. When a price/quantity is clearly stated, one can make a value judgment, and estimate if any corners are cut.

That said, I don't make any choices in life based on religion. Basing actions on facts is difficult enough without adding voodoo to the mix.
