You're a smart dude holnrew, it's good to hear opinions on our politics from someone looking in, rather than out. I like BBC's news because they're not afraid to show the horrors of war, unlike our government controlled weak-pussy news networks. Funny, on my new blog, one of my "interests", I put "British people".
Who are you supporting in the upcoming American election

As for voting for Hillary but not Obama, I think she is much more Socialistic than Barack.
I'm pretty much a Socialist, but I can see becoming a pure socialist state would drive away business and income. But anyway I'm shocked at how people can have so little disregard for their fellow man, not everybody on welfare is a freeloader, doesn't everyone deserve a chance at getting life on track? Sure some people make poor choice, doesn't mean they should suffer forever, not to mention many people are born into shit.
Drug addicts are no different to smokers, they got hooked on something damaging to their health, but should they be left to rot because their substance is illegal? I know it's a slight difference, but an addiction is an addiction.
IMO a society deserves to be judged by it's poorest citizens and for a world leader America fails in this respect.
The thing that strikes me is how incredibly right wing republicans are, the Conservative party here seem like communists in comparison!
One more thing while I'm on a roll is how many Republicans call themselves Christians. Wasn't the message of Jesus to love one another? I can't see how Jesus would approve of letting people rot because of their actions, or killing somebody because they're on your property (thou shalt not kill?) is remotely Christian. I'm an atheist but still follow the teachings of the gospels, the overriding message is love for your fellow man.
I'm sorry I went off on a bit of one, but politics is always going to be tetchy and if one side puts their view across I feel compelled to respond.
ops:
Seeing as, I come from foster child system. Not knowing who my father is and my mother killed when I was 4. I know the worst that America has to offer.
I worked my ass off in school. It will not show in spelling and grammer. Then worked harder when, I got out. I had my first child at 17 and have 3 now. Not one child was born with any government assistance.
My first wife, whom I had 2 of the 3 children with died 5 yrs ago due to a drug overdose.
This is a little history of myself that may help you understand my opinions.
If, I can make it in this world, anybody can. But, we are teaching people to be victims, not suviviors. It is not my responsiblity to provide for you and yours. It is my resonsibiltiy to provide for me and my own. I do not care to help people in need. I just don't like the government taking it and saying it is my duty to take care of them. 40 % of my money is plenty. Mr. Obama says, I need to give more. Well thats BS IMO...
As far as your drug addicts are like nicotine addicts. Nothing can be further from the truth. I have been addicted to nicotine since, I was 15. I have never stole a car, robbbed an old lady, or stole a loved ones credit card to support my habit.
Or in my Ex wife's case. Pawned my 5 yrs old video games, bike, or bed. I have not went missing for weeks at a time or sold my body to other people, to get drug money.
Bottom line, nobody sticks a gun to these junkies head and says, take this dope or I am going to blow your head off.
Drug addicts are on the same level as cock roaches to me.
As far as your Christian comments. The commandment you are reffering to "Thou shalt not Kill" was changed in 1611 from "Thou shalt not Murder". If someone is on your property. No, they should not be shot. If they are there to steal or hurt you. Yes, imo shot them.
By the way, you are probally more religious than I am.
The religious remarks are always what Liberials fall back on. Every Conservative can see through these remarks.
Bottom line for me is. I work to damn hard to give 1 cent of my money to people that do not deserve it. The government gives billions to people that do not deserve it. I do not care to help someone in need. I would gratefully give to them. Drug addicts do not deserve warm horse crap to eat.
One good example. The state of Tennesse spends 15 million dollars a week in funding for methadone clinics. That is 780 million dollars a year. Could you imagine, want that money would do in our school systems, or foster child programs. At the very least fighting global warming, that should make you happy. My god, 780 million dollars a year to give drug addicts free drugs. And Mr. Obama will want more. BS in my opinion.

Interesting stuff...everyone. I think holnrew, kidstaxi and myself, and probably all of us are proof that no single party can ever have the absolute best interests of everyone on their platforms. I tend to vote on the liberal side, and I IMO McCain, while I respect his service to the country, is a feeble, flip-flopping, dottering old man. Sarah Palin is sexy in a weird way though lol. Really though, I like Obama's youthful charisma, his energy and manner of speaking, and many of his ideas. But as liberal as some of my views are, I'm a gun owner and I fear that he may take Clinton's propensity for gun control even farther to the point of absurdity...I don't know guys.

I've heard enough of Obama's speaches to not trust anything he says. I haven't heard enough of McCain to be sure (he's non existent in the media in Germany for what reason ever). I guess whoever wins, everything will stay the same. Even Hillary seems like a reasonable alternative, compared to these two.
"I'm not American and don't care" fits best for me. It's nightmare enough to realize every day, that our actual chancelor is a brown-nose of the fomer communist authorities in Eastern Germany and now making right-winged politics. Politics aren't fun anymore!
Cheers!

The media darling Obama sounds great and he talks a good talk, but has no real experience. Now every ten seconds a reporter is shoving some popular black person in front of the camera to say, "This country (USA) has come so far, but will they truly vote for a black person."
This is EXACTLY what they want you to focus on- race. Why? Because it doesn't really effin' matter who the president is.
Who cares which thief is robbing your pockets to pander to their voter base when you are a middle class dope like me?
Screw all of 'em, but I'd pick the lesser of the two evils- McCain.
Like someone else said already, Obama is a commie socialist twist.
End Rant

Well politics is hugely personal, so I respect other peoples opinions and respect kidstaxi very much as a person having read his response although there are still things we disagree on.
In America it's odd because it's a 2 horse race, one extreme or the other. In this country there are 2 major parties, but a 3rd one which has quite a large membership, it wouldn't surprise me if they became the second largest at the next general election as labour are so unpopular. But anyway the Labour and Conservative parties were traditionally left and right, but now they seem to be fighting for the centre, and Labour almost seem to the right of the Conservative party. It just seems like it would be better for everyone in the US if there was an option in the centre, Arnie seems to have adopted a central stance as governor of California and is keeping everyone happy.
It would just make sense if the Democratic party made policies that would appeal to the republicans in order to get more votes. And vice-versa with the Republicans. It seems that whoever is in power half of the country is going to hate it. Only with Republicans in power it pisses off a lot of the world too.

And Arnold and the Republic of California are complete socialist commies

I find it hard to read things like republican/Christians tolerate watching people rot.
The difference between Rep/Dem is that one side prefers to spend their money in their own fashion, while the other would rather hand it to a government to spend it for them.
You'll find in any research that Reps. donate far more money to social charities than Dems.
The Dems like having the poor, because they are their entire electorate. They do not want their programs to succeed. If they did, there would be no one in the poll booth lines for them, unlike the welfare lines which swell with every vote to the left.
Reps spend money on defense and foreign policy advancement. Dems care more about their own power and prestige. They have no agenda.
