sgreger - I'm assuming that's referring to the eminem song, if so, that is probably my favorite of his.

    f. bandersnatch - Wonderful post. I don't understand the fear of marijuana. They call it a 'gateway' drug, but if there is such a thing, it would certainly be legal drugs i.e. alcohol or nicotine; not marijuana. Like you mentioned, i don't see the harm in talking about it. It is illegal, so what? It's a stupid law. There are plenty. Some laws from my home state of Nebraska:

If a child burps during church, his parent may be arrested.

It is Illegal to go whale fishing.

It is illegal for bar owners to sell beer unless they are simultaneously brewing a kettle of soup.

It is illegal for a mother to give her daughter a perm without a state license.

To the people saying we shouldn't discuss it because it's illegal, (free speech?) what does it matter if it is mostly illegal? Other have pointed out that it is not a global issue, it pertains to certain states and countries. It is not illegal globally. Either way, it's a f*cking plant! How crazy is it that we make nature illegal?

I agree with the gist of your post, but coca and poppies are plants, yet cocaine and heroin should be illegal. I don't like getting mugged, robbed, burglarized, or murdered by people that need a fix.

Fair enough, but you do realize that you must refine coca and poppies to get the street drugs from them.
Yes, I know some South Americans chew on coca leaf but very much doubt the effects are the same as refined cocaine.

                NIIICE Jan

The most stoned I got in Amsterdam (Honeymoon) Was right off the plane... we had to wait on our room to be ready and hit the nearest coffee shop... after almost 24 hours with no sleep and little food... the cafe was leaning to the right when I left!
Had no trouble interacting with the hotel folks either.... i was very happy. LOL

You are correct about the South Americans and I believe the effect of chewing coca is more like a lot of strong coffee. You can however get opium from poppy pods by just slicing them open and collecting the sap that oozes out and dries. Interestingly, poppies are legal to grow in the U.S. but become illegal as soon as the pods are cut. We do have some crazy laws in this country...

DO NOT DRINK BEER OR OTHER ALC. BEFORE HAVING A JOINT.... NEVER, EVER.. JUST DON'T DO IT.... you need to be 100% clean before you smoke it, no alc, no coffee, nothing. I had two lovely Westmalle beers (9 % alc) for dinner and thought I would have "desert" at a coffee shop... I was completely drunk ... or "high" or whatever I was and so was my girlfriend... we could not find our way to the central station and nearly missed the train back to Cologne.

We drank one beer at the Heineken factory and that was it. We seemed to have other priorities. LMAO

They are true, as far as if they are still valid to be enforced, i don't think so. I hope one day that's what happens with pot; realization that it's a stupid law and no reason to have it around anymore.

lincoln - I get where you are coming from. I personally, and this will probably be controversial and i don't wish it to start any drama so this post is all i will say on it, but i think all drugs should be legalized. Prohibition clearly does not work. It creates a dangerous black market. In my opinion if drugs were legalized and regulated it would cut down on a lot of crime and ruined families and lives due to the 'drug war'.

Would anyone here, that doesn't have a predilection towards it, really do heroin or meth simply because it were legal? I find it hard to believe that to be the case. People are going to do what they want to do no matter the laws.

I don't think simply ingesting something that alters your state of mind should be a crime. If you are mugging or killing or robbing to get it, that's a different item all together and those violent offenders should be arrested. I don't think people that just want to get high and do no harm to others should be considered criminals.

Apologies for kind of hijacking the thread. Please don't take the post as an attack or anything of the sort lincoln, just expanding on my thoughts on the issue.
