I'm not sure what to make of this... It's an interesting read, nonetheless:

Marijuana Crop Found Near Osama Bin Laden's Pakistan Compound

Details are continuing to emerge regarding Osama bin Laden's top-secret Abbottabad compound, but the discovery of some marijuana plants just yards from the home has set the blogosphere aflame with speculation.

Said to be worth $1 million (though that estimate is now hotly debated), the home of the world's most feared terrorist has attracted crowds of Pakistanis and media to its now sealed-off gates. But a stroll around the 20-foot-tall, barbed wire-ringed walls led CNN's Nic Robertson to the cannibis crop, barely hidden alongside a garden of cabbages and potatoes.

But whether or not bin Laden and his family were growing the weed for recreational purposes remains a mystery. As the Daily Mail reports, it has long been speculated that the Al Qaeda leader suffered from kidney failure, which would allow him to get a prescription for medical marijuana in many U.S. states.

View Robertson's report from the compound, including the discovery of the marijuana plants, here:

I don't do weed, to me it feel the same as being drunk does, and I like the taste of beer and whiskey more than I like the smell of weed.

                    Ireland
                    MARCHES TO LEGALISE CANNABIS HELD

LEGALISE CANNABIS marches were held in Dublin and Cork on Saturday. Large numbers of participants turned out from an alliance of groups including Cork Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Legalise Cannabis Ireland and the De Criminalise Illegal Drugs group.

Participants in the fifth annual Legalise Cannabis marches have stressed that the money that is raised through the drugs trade would be better spent by the Government than by criminal gangs who currently control it.

Roscommon-Leitrim TD Luke Ming Flanagan told attendants at the rally in Cork on Saturday afternoon that anyone who believed that legalising cannabis would lead to more people using hard drugs should listen to the facts from the Netherlands.

"According to a psychiatric think tank in the Netherlands, an organisation that carries out a survey of 5,000 people every six years, less than one in a thousand of Dutch teenagers experiment with heroin in a country where you can openly buy cannabis. So if you are a concerned parent out there and you want to ensure your child is 90 per cent less likely to try heroin, legalise cannabis."

Gordon MacArdle, author of a paper called Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis , said this was "an opportunity for Ireland to make a brave step forward and legalise cannabis and take that tax revenue that is going into criminals' hand and put it into the tax coffers".

Mr MacArdle ( 36 ) previously lived in California where he operated a medical marijuana dispensary in Napa Valley. He was prescribed medicinal marijuana for post-traumatic stress disorder which he continues to use for the ailment.

He is now based in Dublin and has campaigned on the disparity between the drug laws in California and Ireland, where any use of cannabis is illegal.

Other speakers at the rallies included Vincent Lavery, chairman of the organisation Decriminalise Illegal Drugs, and mental health campaigner John McCarthy.

                    Indonesia
                    GROUP PROMOTES MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION INITIATIVE

Convinced that marijuana could be used for medical purposes, a group in Jakarta is campaigning to promote legalization.

The group called Lingkar Ganja Nusantara ( Nusantara Marijuana Network ) said that for decades, society has had misperceptions about marijuana, and the alleged ills that it may potentially cause, without ever looking into its potential benefits.

"If we explore further, cannabis actually has more benefits than negative effects on humans," said network chairman Irwan Syarif.

Irwan said that for medical purposes, marijuana could be used in cancer treatment procedures and could also work as an anti-inflammation drug.

Marijuana contains a chemical compound known as cannabinoid, which could be used as an effective painkiller, to control nausea and to stimulate a person's appetite, he added.

For industrial purposes, Irwan said that the fiber from hemp, a type of cannabis plant, could be used as raw material in the production of rope, pulp, oil and food.

"We've visited a pulp and paper factory and it proves that paper made from hemp is more durable. After being recycled eight times, the paper is still of good quality," Irwan said.

Lingkar Ganja Nusantara, established in 2008, is an organization that endorses the legalization of marijuana in Indonesia. It has organized campaigns and discussions about the positive uses of marijuana.

Irwan said that the network could also serve as an information hub for the general public and help dispel the notion that marijuana kills.

The network is set to fight an uphill battle to push the government to recognize the utility of cannabis.

"We will go up a notch by trying to convince the government to exempt marijuana from the category of harmful drugs in the law on narcotics," he said.

According to Law No. 35/2009 on Narcotics, marijuana is deemed a narcotic. It outlaws the use and possession of marijuana and all of its derivative substances unless used for scientific purpose.

It also states that the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency ( BPOM ) is the only agency tasked to monitor the use of marijuana for scientific or technology purposes.

The network has blamed the law for the proliferation of illegal marijuana on the black market. The network has argued that legalization would make it easier for the government to control its use.

National Narcotics Agency ( BNN ) spokesperson Sumirat Dwiyanto said that there had never been a plan to legalize marijuana.

Sumirat also dismissed arguments that marijuana would be valuable for the medical industry.

"As long as it is still categorized as an illegal substance under the narcotics law, the use and the possession of marijuana is also illegal in this country," he said.

Sweet Sixteen: Delaware Governor Signs Medical Marijuana Bill Into Law

Earlier this morning Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed legislation to make the “First State” the sixteenth to approve the physician supervised use of medical marijuana. This measure will allow qualifying patients to possess up to 6 ounces of usable marijuana acquired from any of three state-supervised distribution centers. Qualifying conditions for the program include cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s disease and post-traumatic stress disorder. Full text of the bill can be read here.

NORML would like to thank all of the activists who contacted their State Senators and Representatives in support of this important legislation. The law must now undergo a one year regulatory and licensing process before the state’s three dispensaries begin operation. We will be sure to keep you posted on Delaware’s medical marijuana program as it develops.

Didn't read all 8 pages of this thread, but have you guys seen "Run From The Cure, The Rick Simpson Story" ? I was amazed, and am now looking into acquiring enough to make the amount of oil I would need to give to my sister for her skin cancer and my mother in law for her terminal colon cancer. If anyone has watched it, what are your thoughts? My wife watched it and I could tell by the look on her face, her mind was in a panic trying to figure out how to get hewr mom to watch that documentary, and open her mind to trying hash oil for her cancer. Anyway, amazing stuff if true. Check it out.
