Right, addiction is addiction, and a drug is a drug, but imho alcohol is far more dangerous and the results of alcohol abuse are more harmful.

I come from a family with a history of alcohol abuse and it's grim. Something I strongly despise. I've seen stoners....well....do nothing which is equally depressing. I've also seen stoners with mental health problems...admittedly probably latently already there but enhanced and probably triggered by strong cannabis. Cannabis doesn't have the violence with it that alcohol abuse brings but I think there would be quieter and more private downsides to continuous cannabis usage but downsides there most definitely are. I've nothing against a casual smoke at the weekend just like a light drinker but chronic usage is dependency and abuse.

You can look at it that way in your eyes, but its wrong. There are very little, if any at all, physically addicting properties to marijuna. There is mental addiction, but that is way easier to to overcome. I am a regular habitual pot smoker. But when I can not smoke it, it is not an issue at all.Gave it up for 3 months to get clean to pass a test. No withdrawal issues, no change in personality, no jonesing for my weed. My habitual use is purely by choice. A functioning alcholic can NOT give it up, and will suffer many bad symptoms when doing so. An alcoholic is also destroying his insides, where marijunna users are only repairing brain and blood cells. (that was said in humor, but there are MANY positives from intaking marijuanna). Complete total difference in the 2. ANd no one is addicted to being stoned all day and night, they are choosing that.

ANd lots of people like to point to all of the young people in rehab for weed as prrof of its addicting nature. But thats completely false as well. Kid getscaught with weed. He gets a choice, go to Juny, or go to rehab. Easy choice. THen all the parents and politicians get to point ot all the kids in rehab and say its addicitng. Watch any habitual smoker give it up, then watch an alcoholic try to give it up, and tell me theyre are even a LITTLE bit similar, you won't be able to.

yeah, an alcoholic is a major issue...stopping half kills them. Stopping cannabis isn't an issue. It's the amount and frequency while the person's on it that I feel is an issue.

Axe, I fully agree that Ganja is far less harmful and what I was getting at is that the (functioning alcoholic or a person who likes to drink) is similar in behaivor to chronic pot users who drive, go to work and everywhere else baked without any thought. Weed is still a impairing substance even with all of it's medical, industrial and safer drug benefits.

I have friends who are addicted by choice then because they do everything high for many years now.

Really guays, this pot talk is getting out of hand. Too many threads and posts going on about marijuana, and Crow just won't shut the **** up about it. I came to this fine forum to talk about snus, not this hippy stoner gibberish.

              Let's tone it down, eh?

PP, are you in Canada or did this story make the U.S News?
The funniest thing in this story is the crack pusher appearing on the news "to do the right thing" and denounce Rob Ford's crack usage, which I thought was pretty hilarious...

It hit the states. I've been following it because its funnier than hell. I loved it when he was asked during the hearing about his crack habit and all he kept answering was "Have you smoked marijuana?" And he keeps saying he ain't stepping down. lmao..

tomorrow he will come up with something different that's outrageous

Toronto has been pretty messed up for quite awhile so I'm not surprised. It was a great place when I lived there as a kid some 30+ years ago. It's changed so much and I'm happy to be a good distance away but it still saddens me a bit to see how it's fallen. What confuses me is that Ford is a conservatard in a liberal town and would still win an election if it was called today.
