The Dawn of Legal Hemp Begins in Colorado



DENVER (AP) — Hemp registration opened for farmers Saturday in Colorado, the first state to start regulating industrial hemp since the federal government allowed limited hemp regulation.

A handful of Colorado farmers grew industrial hemp last year without interference from law enforcement or state agriculture officials. But the opening Saturday of Colorado's industrial-hemp registry is the first opportunity for farmers to comply with licensure requirements through a state Department of Agriculture.

Hemp farmers will have to submit to state inspections to make sure they're not growing the plant's psychoactive cousin, marijuana.

The concept of "illegal plants" has always bothered me, and I find the idea offensive. This whole thing should be a non-issue, and I imagine it will be after 30-40 years, but the historic stupidity and oppression is mind boggling.

Hemp is grown like corn or any grain type while "Marijuana" is grown like a prize rose. Hemp is grown for fiber/food while Marijane is grown for medical or recreational purposes.

Hemp = fiber (you can make ropes, clothing, or Grateful Dead souvenirs from it)

MJ.........(the mood altering chemicals contained in the plant that gives you the hemp fiber).

The THC content of hemp is minute. Which was enough to give the Federal government a hard-on for its prohibition (and inclusion in the Controlled Substances Act).

We are the only industrialised nation in the world to outlaw the cultivation of hemp. As of February 2014, the US senate passed a farm bill that allows for a cultivation pilot program in the states where hemp cultivation has been legalised. It still remains illegal at the Federal level, but that's slowly changing.

So hemp is more like......a better cigarette? While colorado and whatever other states have legalized marijuana for recreational use which will actually get you high? Does anyone smoke hemp?

No, it's like the difference between feed corn and sweet corn. Hemp is taller, low THC and grown for its fibers and oils. MJ is a lower, usually unfertilized, female hemp plant variety, bred for high THC and smoking. They are both cannabis sativa plants, just different varieties.

I suppose I see now. Does anyone smoke hemp? I understand it doesn't get you high but maybe as just an alternative to a pipe of tobacco?

I'm sure there are people that do (or have tried it), but I'd say it's a rare practice........... Sort of like drinking near beer.

There was a company that sold hemp dip, but I haven't seen it sold lately.

20 bucks for 5 cans.....think i'll pass. interesting though. Perhaps I will try the real marijuana some time after me and my girlfriend move in and we need to have a fun sunday afternoon or something.

Yep, medicinal cannabis is the way to go... Why someone would drink non-alcoholic beer, or decaffeinated coffee, or THC-free cannabis is beyond me.

I'm a little uneasy about it. We have both tried it before when we were in high school but while pretty severely under the influence of alcohol so i have no honest idea what it would be like. A few years ago, under my better judgement i tried K2 while at a friends lake house after high school graduation and i ended up waking up sitting at the foot of another couples bed.......so.... There are a few cool dudes I work with that are regular users I'm just not sure how to ask them if i can buy some from them. I know here in IL you can get it for specific things but to be honest I'm not sure what they are, my girlfriend seems to think i could be diagnosed with something from a shrink for just being strange, she also thinks I am bipolar simply because I can move on from being mad about something rather quickly. Question crow if i fit the requirements to get a weed card or whatever in IL where would i get the weed from? I know there are not dispensaries here so would it like....be mailed to me or something?
