Fans need a sport and soccer has a great tradition internationally but it has never reached the same heights in U.S. and never will imo. The sport is Football in U.S. as in Football our version (should have been a different name btw) and the hot alternative sport in the U.S. is Lacrosse and Soccer has peaked out imo.

I'm not an american but i don't know, maybe these new generations of americans will be more attracted to soccer, and then their kids an so on... it is a long process but maybe in a few decades, soccer will be really popular in the US, the level of your national team has vastly improved

Soccer is still popular in grade school, high school and college but has peaked imo again Lacrosse is the alternative sport to Football, Baseball and Basketball that is going to see the most growth going forward imo. I actually played 2 years of varsity soccer (left wing) in HS but still an American Football fan at heart. But Worldcup I will be tuning in to cheer on USA...kinda like the Olympics to me you get into a sport as a fan during these type of world competitions.
