Still though, you gotta hand it to the Netherlands. They've shocked many people this time around with their fine footy skills.Squeezyjohn

Rugby is nice, but these days I'm all over Australian Rules Football... Intense, fun, and best of all: there's a team named after me. Caw!Words of Wisdom

Don't get me wrong - I like a good game of rugby, but it's simply not as much fun to watch most of the time ... the viewing figures worldwide don't lie!
But I'm sure you'll point out that I simply don't have the required (in)breeding to appreciate such a fine manly game :-PSqueezyjohn

So great that the Dutch went through to the next round and the Aussies went out - don't need any more spoilers in the competition!Words of Wisdom

I love Aussie rules - have done since the first time it was televised in the UK while I was a teenager. I'm a massive Collingwood fan - and played for my university with a load of Aussie students (and a few Gaelic footballers who converted).
It's probably the most pure form of football that exists today - by that I mean the closest to the original type of game before it was codified in the mid 1800s ... it has very few rules compared to most codes which means it really flows and is a real physical game too.
Love it to pieces ... shame it's not on telly in the UK anymore :-(Squeezyjohn

yeah yeah - the USA, Canada and Ivory Coast might as well just turn up to polish the boots - the chance they've got of scoring a try!!
For anyone who doesn't follow rugby ... these are the only teams which really compete:
England
Ireland
Scotland
Wales
France
(Italy - a bit rubbish though)
South Africa
Australia
New Zealand
(Argentina - only join in so they can stamp on English heads)
A few others scrape together a team like the small polynesian islands ... but all their best players end up playing for New Zealand anyway! The US, Canada and Japan and various other random countries occasionally field a team ... but they are awful!
So it's hardly a world sport like football is it?Squeezyjohn
