It's the same thing here in the UK ... The celts got invaded by the Romans, then the Saxons, the Saxons got invaded by the Vikings and the Normans ... The Normans were followed by immigration by Huguenots, Jews, Romany, Italians, Greek, Irish, Chinese, Indians, Afro-Carribeans, and in recent years Polish, Portuguese and Bulgarians ...

Almost everything we think of as British comes from immigrants ... Our royal family is German and Greek, ice-creams on a seaside holiday come from the Italians ... And fish & chips is a French invention ffs!

That's a potted 2000 year history ... Who really has the right to say "this place is mine, keep out, we're full!" ... Really? Land ownership doesn't even mean anything since our current government has stolen the right to tunnel under our houses and set off explosions to try and frak us over.

          Guys,

Just because something has happened in the past is no reason to allow it to happen again. People have been conquering, enslaving, looting, and raping, each other since time immemorial. What matters to me is America's situation right now. If we let in anybody who wants to come in, our nation will effectively disappear; wage rates will plummet; national identity will disintegrate. Yes, native Americans were all but eliminated by Europeans. How is that a reason to roll right over and let anyone and everyone eliminate me?

It is akin to saying "well, at some point in the past, my ancestors likely killed your ancestors, so please feel free to come and kill me whenever you'd like". It just doesn't add up. Just because something has happened in the past is no reason for it to keep happening.

Whatever happened to a proper sense of pride in your national identity?

But you are the one advocating shooting people and enslaving them. Surely that is a step backwards ? and national identity?
are you called CzechCzar because you have Czech heritage? What sense of national identity exactly are you proud of ?

Umm - I think people are slowly coming to the conclusion that it's a ridiculous loyalty invented only in the past thousand years of human existence. And quite rightly, people are starting to realise that it serves only the powerful rich and corrupt governments.

By all means have pride in your local community where you can make a difference to peoples lives - but national pride? ... Do me a favour! That s**t is sooo 1890s

OK, if an allegiance to nationalism is passé, what do you see replacing it?

Without a single hint of irony or anything - they shout and moan about immigration.

                              Hilarious!
You just captured the main culture of the U.S in one short post.

I'm not in a border state or even near a major city immigrants would look to go to so all of this really has no effect on me. But I do feel for the people near the border. With a large influx in population comes a large influx of violence........There are several countries who recently allowed a large influx of immigrants and it has not turned out.......that well.

I've lived in areas that are post mass-immigration and actively accepting immigrants. It is unfair to say that the violence is directly caused by foreign people.

Violence is almost always present where there is poverty - but it's not a national trait! If the society creates an underground by criminalising people, it reaps the violence and crime the underground needs to survive.
