Is this a new thing? I'm only out of college 7 years or so and don't remember seeing this on federal loans. And more importantly, how is this even legal? I had to take some time off because i ran out of money, so i earned more and went back. I would never take money from fellow students because they still had funds....

It is legal. It's called redistribution of wealth and the government loves it.

Yeah, im still paying my bill and will be for a LONG time. I dunno....I'm more a naturalist/Darwinist.....if you can't afford to go then you don't go, plain and simple.

The thing is ANYONE can go. On top of a federal loan and unsubsidized loan that should cover almost everything....you can take out personal student loans for something like 20k a year. I've never dabbled in that because I get a large amount of tuition reimbursement from my employer every year so there is no need. But even if I was just some homeless guy there are PLENTY of people willing to front you the college money as long as you let that interest keep stacking.

15 Shot in Spate of Overnight Violence in New York City (Update)

Fifteen people were shot in a spate of overnight violence in New York City that left two people dead and 13 others injured, some critically, in a span of eight hours.
Police reported the first shooting late Saturday, at an East Harlem Park. Three people were shot and injured in Jefferson Park on 113th Street and First Avenue; one of the victims was seriously injured, according to officials.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday two were shot dead in Hamilton Heights when a motorist got out of his car and opened fire. The driver fled after fatally wounding a 21-year-old man in the neck and a 29-year-old in the back.
Three people were shot on a street in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday. A 19-year-old was shot in the arm, a 24-year-old was also shot in the arm and a 29-year-old was shot in the thigh. The injuries were considered non-life threatening.
In a shooting in the South Jamaica section of Queens at around 6 a.m. Sunday four people were shot when two men got out of a car and fired more than 20 rounds. Two of them were in critical condition, according to officials.

As rightfully incensed residents of Ferguson, Missouri continue to protest a police shooting that left an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, dead, Ron Davis–father of Jordan Davis, another slain black teen in Jacksonville, Florida–is appearing before the United Nations, aiming to shame the United States for the recent murders of young black men, and the gross miscarriages of justice that allowed their killers to walk free.
Davis attended the 85th meeting of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Geneva, Switzerland this past Wednesday and Thursday, in hopes of pressuring Washington to amp up efforts to stop the disturbing epidemic of what he and the United States Human Rights Network (USHRN), the NGO backing him, call “the criminalization of race” in America.
The U.S. was forced to answer questions from Davis and the international community in what the American Civil Liberties Union told press was “a singular opportunity to hold Washington accountable.”
Davis is outraged over what he (and many others) say is a rash of unpunished murders of young black men across the country.
Just six months after George Zimmerman was acquitted in killing unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin, Davis’ son Jordan was gunned down at a gas station after he and his friends refused to lower their music. The case against Jordan’s killer, Michael Dunn, resulted in a mistrial.
After their murders, the character of both Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis was called into question, with the defense attorneys for the killers attempting to paint the boys as young thugs–mere criminals, who were deserving of their death sentences at the hands of men who acted as the judge, jury, and executioner–much like what Ferguson PD is attempting to do with the slain Mike Brown, by stating he was a suspect in a strong armed robbery prior to being shot down.
“These things eat at you that shouldn’t have happened, and the people doing these transgressions are getting away with it,” Davis told Al Jazeera.
Ron Davis was joined in Geneva by Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton.
He hopes to channel his anger over the death of his son into a solution for black fathers who have come to teach their children to accept police brutality as a fact of life in the United States. Davis and USHRN director Ejim Dike hope that taking America’s race issues to the international community will create political leverage–and a climate for change–in Washington.
Said Dike, ”We have a lot of people directly impacted by the violence. We have exhausted our domestic remedies. We have to take this to the United Nations. We have to see if we can leverage that pressure to see if we can get people to act on this issue. Talking about any issue as a human rights violation gets the attention of the U.S. government. It’s embarrassing for the government that champions itself as a beacon of human rights in the world.”

Racism is not one person of one color killing someone thats another color.....it's one person killing someone BECAUSE they are another color. The state didn't even argue race in the Trayvon Martin case because it was some paranoid anxiety induced hispanic (or white-hispanic so the media could make it about race) guy who followed and was attacked by a black teenager that was prone to violence. Both were in the wrong and both shouldn't have done what they did....but one of them had a gun and used it with what I think most who don't bring race into it would call a justifiable defense.

Looter: 'I'm Proud of Us. We Deserve This'

According to the Washington Post, a looter in Ferguson, Missouri, expressed pride and admiration for looters and said their actions are justified.
"I'm proud of us. We deserve this, and this is what's supposed to happen when there's injustice in your community," said DeAndre Smith, whom the Washington Post says was "fresh from looting the QuikTrip."
One officer told the Post that widespread looting has spawned "looting tourism" wherein thieves as far away as Illinois and Texas are traveling to Ferguson to steal.
"It's like looting tourism," said the officer. "It's like they are spending their gas money to come down here and steal." CNN commentator Marc Lamont Hill said two white individuals, one an "anarchist" and another from a "revolutionary Communist group in Illinois," lobbed water bottles into a crowd of protestors and were shunned by protestors who told them to "go back to your neighborhood with that instead of coming in here and messing with us."
