9-year-old kills gun instructor with Uzi - Another NRA weapon used in Self Defense:-)

American, the land of the brain dead

Oh well, at least the gun freaks and gangs are mostly killing each other.
Now their kids are doing them in.

DOLAN SPRINGS, Ariz. — A 9-year-old girl accidentally killed an Arizona shooting instructor as he was showing her how to use an automatic Uzi, authorities said Tuesday.

Charles Vacca, 39, of Lake Havasu City, died Monday shortly after being airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Mohave County sheriff’s officials said.

Vacca was standing next to the girl at the Last Stop outdoor shooting range in White Hills when she pulled the trigger and the recoil sent the gun over her head, investigators said.

Authorities said the girl was at the shooting range with her parents. Her name was not released.

A woman who answered the phone at the shooting range said it had no comment. She did not provide her name.

It is not known if the range had an age limit on shooting or if the girl was going through a safety class.

Ronald Scott, a Phoenix-based firearms safety expert, said most shooting ranges have an age limit and strict safety rules when teaching children to shoot. He said instructors usually have their hands on guns when children are firing high-powered weapons.

“You can’t give a 9-year-old an Uzi and expect her to control it,” Scott said.

Authorities released a video of the shooting instructor showing the girl how to fire the weapon moments before he was accidentally shot.

The positioning and posture I have seen for instructors is - Instructor's left hand just touching shooters left upper arm and instructor's right hand on shooters right shoulder....never along side. A nine year old with an Uzi? Whats the point of that?

Well....that place caters to letting tourists shoot exotic weapons. What could go wrong with giving a 9 year old an uzi anyway? Darwin award semi finalist!!!!!!

FWIW, I emailed the link to my son, an instructor, asking if he had seen it.....his reply:

O yea I've seen it, hurts to watch. There were several things that
went wrong. First the guy was NOT a NRA certified Range Safety Officer
and should NOT have been working as one. Second his position with the
girl is 100% wrong, he should be behind her on her right side, left
hand supporting her shoulder, right hand holding the gun to gain

control when she lets go. Third that UZI is actually a Mini UZI with a
very fast rate of cycle almost twice as fast as a standard UZI.
There's a reason we don't run submachine guns that cycle that fast.
They are very dangerous in untrained hands and you can't train a
tourist in a day! A child of her size should have been shooting a 22
if anything at all. I do feel sorry for everyone affected, mostly the
girl who must live with this for the rest of her life.

I knew that sensible people do exist in he US! First thing I said when I heard about this was, kids under 12 shouldn't shoot anything other than a .22. I then saw the vid and though exactly what your son said, he was on the wrong side of her! When I learnt to shoot it was drilled into us from day one the safety!

At about that age I had my first school shooting. We were using a .22 rifle which seemed huge and very heavy to me at that time. We shot lying on the ground with the teacher behind and over the kid. It had to be great fun - I still remember it today. I do not remember any recoil. I think the size of that WWII-style gun took care of that.

Thats how I learnt, prone .22 rimfire rifles, heavy, painful, no recoil but great fun. I kept shooting .22s right up until I finished university and represented the uni in many competitions.

I went to a range when I was about 12, and had a chance to shoot a full automatic Thompson, but my mother backed out; ruining fun for over 4 decades... :^D Oh, well. I did get to shoot a .22, and a 9mm, but that's not a fsckin' Thompson!
