Oxford University Press Bans Use Of Pig, Sausage Or Pork-Related Words To Avoid Offending Muslims

14 Jan 2015 The Oxford University Press has warned its writers not to mention pigs, sausages or pork-related words in children's books, in an apparent bid to avoid offending Jews and Muslims.
The existence of the publisher's guidelines emerged after a radio discussion on free speech in the wake of the Paris attacks. Speaking on Radio 4's Today programme, presenter Jim Naughtie said: "I've got a letter here that was sent out by OUP to an author doing something for young people.
"Among the things prohibited in the text that was commissioned by OUP was the following: Pigs plus sausages, or anything else which could be perceived as pork.
"Now, if a respectable publisher, tied to an academic institution, is saying you've got to write a book in which you cannot mention pigs because some people might be offended, it’s just ludicrous. It is just a joke."

Al Sharpton Calls For Emergency Meeting To Address 'Appalling' All-White Oscar Nominees

The Rev. Al Sharpton was left fuming mad after the Oscars revealed its all-white list of nominees for this year's Oscar awards on Thursday.
"The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets," Sharpton quipped in a statement released later in the afternoon.
Sharpton, a critic of the lack of diversity in Hollywood, also announced he was holding an "emergency meeting" next week to address the issue.
"I have called an emergency meeting early next week in Hollywood with the task force to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards," he said.

Well, sorry Al. Find us some better black actors that were in good movies and they'll go to the Oscars.

Is he not aware that many Americans already consider Morgan Freeman a god? (As well as, you know, someone who played God.)

The black population in the U.S is around 13%
As almost anyone can tell you, in any traditional setting, people tend to be with people, and enjoy entertainment from their own race, given a choice. This is true across all nationalities.
Therefore, the best way that Hollywood would make money is to produce movies with mostly or all white casts and this is the largest population in the U.S and therefore more people will be attracted to it. Combine that with the fact that the hispanic population is not usually viewed "hispanic" when determining demographics but rather white. So this leaves Hollywood deciding....should i cater to roughly 77.7% of the population or roughly 13%.

Also factor in that Morgan Freeman is in almost every movie. And that "good" black actors right now are considered to be kevin hart and tyler perry...quite possibly the two most unfunny people on the planet.

Make me president. I will declare Al Sharpton a terrorist just as he should be viewed now. The same goes with any of these ridiculous movements to cater to everyone's insanely unrealistic demands so as not to be "offended."

I am so tired of hearing about how people are "offended." THAT IS REAL F******* LIFE AND ITS NEVER GOING TO CHANGE. People will make more money than you even though you do more, people will be mocked and looked down upon for certain lifestyle choices even if they aren't hurting anyone, people will be viewed certain ways based on several things that shouldn't effect them, but it does. Nothing is ever going to be fair, and you will suffer from things you shouldn't suffer from. That does not give you a legitimate claim to be "offended" and demand a change.
I sell insurance for a living...I am not "offended" by your natural distrust for me....some of the only stories you hear about insurance is when people get screwed by it so why shouldn't you look at me that way.

Witches tie the knot in UK’s first same-sex Pagan wedding

Two male witches have tied the knot in the UK’s first pagan same-sex marriage.
Tom Lanting, 34, and Iain Robertson, 39, who have been together for 12 years, were married in a ceremony in the 16th-century vaulted cellars of Marlin’s Wynd in Edinburgh.
The couple, who live in the Scottish capital, are both described as being hedge witches, who use herbal remedies to deal with medical and spiritual ailments.
The ceremony encompassed a number of pagan traditions, including handfasting, where their hands were bound together, the sharing of mead and jumping the broom.
After their wedding, the couple said: “Getting married in a legal pagan ceremony means so much to both of us.” …

New York Times: Obama Aide Reads 'To Kill a Mockingbird' to Month-Old Daughter

Shades of Jimmy Carter revealing at his 1980 presidential debate that he discussed nuclear policy with his 12 year-old daughter. Actually, this is even funnier. According to New York Times reporter Michael S. Schmidt, President Obama's deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes (brother of CBS News Chairman David Rhodes) can be found after midnight reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" to his month-old baby daughter.

This hilarious revelation comes to us in Schmidt's article about the lonely agony of writing Obama's State of the Union address after midnight. Take it from here, Michael S. Schmidt:

Priest: Claims I attacked another priest with a crucifix cost me my job

A priest is suing a former colleague at a Florham Park retreat, accusing him of thefts and of making a false criminal allegation.
In a lawsuit made public Wednesday in Superior Court in Morristown, the Rev. Frank Hreno accused the Rev. Emeka Okwuosa of spitting in his face; pinning him against the wall; taking Hreno's checkbook and writing checks to himself; damaging cars Hreno was authorized to use; taking Hreno's van without authorization and using Hreno's credit card without authorization.
Florham Park Police say Hreno attacked Okwuosa with a four-foot crucifix that he swung through a glass door. Both priests were based at the Vocationist Fathers Retreat & Conference Center in Florham Park.

Judge: You cannot name your baby ‘Nutella’ (France)

A French judge spared a baby girl from being named Nutella – changing her name to Ella instead to save her from a lifetime of teasing.
“The name ‘Nutella’ given to the child is the trade name of a spread,” the court ruled, according to a La Voix Du Nord. “And it is contrary to the child’s interest to have a name that can only lead to teasing or disparaging thoughts.”
The parents wanted to name the girl after the popular chocolate spread, but the judge said that the name was not in the interest of the baby girl, who was born in Valenciennes on Sept. 24.
When the couple failed to appear for a November court hearing, the judge ordered the name change.
In France, the registrar checks newborns’ names when birth certificates are registered. If a name is deemed contrary to the child’s interest, the registrar has to notify a prosecutor. A family court can then change the name.

Transgender Woman to Be Pennsylvania's Physician General

A transgender physician will soon become Pennsylvania's new physician general, the Washington Blade reported.

Dr. Rachel Levine, an expert in adolescent eating disorders and behavior health, was nominated for the Commonwealth's highest medical post by progressive Gov. Tom Wolf.

She made her transition from man to woman five years ago, and with her appointment will become "the highest-ranking transgender person to ever hold a position within state government," the Blade said.
Levine graduated from Harvard College and Tulane University Medical School, and has practiced pediatrics and psychiatry for about three decades, PennLive reported. She has been a physician at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center since 1996 and also serves as a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at the Penn State College of Medicine, the website site.

The governor's spokesman said Levine was chosen because of her expertise, not because she is transgender, The American Mirror reported.

And this was a professor of psychiatry? I don't see a psychiatrist, but I'd have to question my choice of a shrink, if he wore a dress on my next visit. Maybe I'm just to old to understand.....

Police: Chaska Man Bit Off Girlfriend’s Ear, Beheaded Her Cat

According to a criminal complaint, police officers in Chaska responded that night to the Cedar Creek Apartments on a domestic assault call. When they arrived, officers found a 42-year-old woman covered in blood, shaking and cowering in the corner. The woman told police that Trudeau, whom she’d been dating for about two years, had severely beaten her after drinking vodka all afternoon. She said that Trudeau assaulted her while the two were arguing about their relationship. He reportedly choked her, slammed her head onto the ground and told her repeatedly she was “going to die tonight.”
