Nazarene: A “Mark of Shame” Becomes a “Mark of Hope”

IT IS BOTH A SIGN OF FAITH AND A POLITICAL STATEMENT

Earlier this summer Mosul, Iraq – a city American soldiers liberated at great cost in blood and treasure – fell to the radical jihadists of ISIS, terrorists so extreme that even al Qaeda disaffiliated itself from their barbarism. And when Mosul fell, the jihadists did what jihadists do: implemented Shariah law and began ruthlessly persecuting Christians.
Their message to Mosul’s Christians was the ancient message of Islam to unbelievers: convert, pay a fine, or die.
To identify Christian homes and businesses, the jihadists marked them with a unique symbol of persecution. National Review’s Christine Sisto has the details:
The Islamic State, formerly known as ISIS, had marked homes and businesses owned by Christians with a red, painted ن (pronounced “noon”), the 14th letter of the Arabic alphabet and the equivalent to the Roman letter N. The ن stands for Nasara or Nazarenes, a pejorative Arabic word for Christians.
    The markings looked like this:
But what the jihadists intended for evil, the Body of Christ has reclaimed for good. Again, here’s Christine Sisto:
The ن is now being shared on social media as a symbol of solidarity with the Iraqi Christians forced to flee their homes. The Catholic blog Rorate Caeli wrote, the Islamists “mean it as a mark of shame, we must then wear it as a mark of hope. . . . You may kill our brethren and expel them but we Christians will never go away.”
The hashtag #WeAreN is also trending, along with pictures of people of all religions drawing the ن in red ink on their bodies. I’m not a person who believes much in “hashtag advocacy” or that things like social media profile pictures are of much consequence, but this story touched me. So I did this:

"Rabbi, our son is a holy terror. He's been thrown out of six schools already, and he's only in fifth grade!"

      "Send him to Catholic school."

      "What?! Are you sure?"

      "Yes."

      A week later:

"Good afternoon, Mom. How are you, Dad?"

      "Fine, son. How was school?"

"Great. I'm going to do my homework now. Please help me get to school on time tomorrow. Oh, and can I have an apple for the teacher?"

"Son, I'm proud of you. Seems like that new school is really straightening you out."

"Yeah well, they mean business, Dad. They've got a Jew nailed to a cross in every room!"

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Police: Last remaining BBQ rib prompts fork fight

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Police say an Indiana woman stabbed another woman in the eye with a fork in a dispute over the last rib at a barbecue.
The Star Press reports a 45-year-old woman was arrested Sunday night on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness.
An affidavit says the woman was attending a barbecue in Muncie when she raised the ire of the host’s daughter by “taking the last rib from the kitchen.”
The affidavit says the woman told police that the daughter accused her of “taking all the food,” so she stabbed her in the eye.
Police say the woman maintains she acted in self-defense and that the homeowner’s daughter was brandishing a knife.
The woman was in the Delaware County jail on $5,000 bond as of Tuesday.

Armed Bikers Plan to Draw Cartoons of Mohammed Outside a Mosque in Arizona

An armed biker gang. Cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. A mosque in Arizona. What could possibly go wrong?
We’ll find out Friday, when two organizers — Jon Ritzheimer and Flash Nelson — host what’s being billed as a peaceful demonstration outside the Islamic Community Center in Phoenix. It’s the former site of worship for Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, who were killed after opening fire outside a May 3 contest featuring cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in suburban Dallas. Simpson had no direct link to the Islamic State but was sympathetic to its cause. Many Muslims consider depictions of Mohammed blasphemous.
Just like the cartoon contest outside Dallas, this event, scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Friday, appears to welcome controversy. In a Facebook invite, the planners urge attendees to take full advantage of their Second Amendment right to carry weapons. So far, 163 people have RSVP’d.
Here’s the Facebook post in full, verbatim:

Hawaii Island man dies after being impaled by swordfish

Hawaii Island police report that a 47-year-old fisherman died Friday in Kailua-Kona during a fishing accident.
Responding to a 10:48 a.m. call, police learned that a swordfish had been observed in Honokohau Harbor and that fisherman Randy Llanes of Kailua-Kona had jumped into the water with a spear gun. The fish was then seen thrashing about, leaving a puncture wound to the man’s upper chest.
Hawaii County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and attempted CPR. They took Llanes to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m.
Acting Sgt. David Matsushima of the Kona patrol said that after the fish got hit with Llanes’ spear, “the fish got wrapped around a mooring anchor, came back and swam at him.”

Gender neutral restrooms gaining traction among schools

Two years after California passed a law that permits transgender youth to use whatever bathroom they wish, school districts continue to grapple with compliance, though major strides have been made.
“You can’t just build a restroom or retrofit one tomorrow,” said Kurt Dearie, a history teacher at Carlsbad High School who has been a co-advisor for the school’s Gender Sexuality Alliance since 2002. “The lack of money and all kinds of things make this more challenging today.”

Pentagon Pledges $18 million To Hanoi For Metal Shark Patrol Boats

May 31 U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter pledged $18 million on Sunday to help Vietnam buy U.S. patrol boats, shortly after touring a Vietnamese coast guard vessel that was hit by a Chinese ship during a skirmish in the South China Sea.
Carter, who has been focusing on maritime security during an 11-day trip to the Asia-Pacific, visited the Vietnamese navy headquarters and coast guard headquarters before boarding the ship.
Carter is on his second visit to Asia since becoming defense secretary earlier this year. He said he planned to sign a “vision statement” on Monday with his Vietnamese counterpart to guide the expansion of bilateral military ties.

Kinda takes the edge off of the Feminist movement, when any guy can declare himself "Queen for a Day", and get more attention.
