Utah Planned Parenthood pulls condoms with Mormon symbol

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's Planned Parenthood branch won't hand out condom packages printed with a symbol associated with Mormon youth teachings after an image of the wrappers on its Facebook page generated backlash.
The wrappers stamped with a popular design symbolizing the phrase "Choose the Right" were a limited run intended to spark open conversation about sexual health, Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Katrina Barker said.

Navy to Name Ship After Gay Rights Activist Harvey Milk

The Navy is set to name a ship after the gay rights icon and San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, according to a Congressional notification obtained by USNI News.
The July 14, 2016 notification, signed by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, indicated he intended to name a planned Military Sealift Command fleet oiler USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO-206). The ship would be the second of the John Lewis-class oilers being built by General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, Calif.

Public Schools Create "Gender Unicorn" Mascot for K-12 Students

Meet the gender Unicorn. This was included in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) training presentation on handling transgender issues under the new CMS policy that goes into effect on August 29th. It’s startling enough that the school district feels they have sovereignty to directly disobey state statute as outlined in HB2, but some of the stuff in here is shocking.
Check out some of these quotes:
1. Parental involvement dependent on student’s permission: “Involvement of parents in the plan is determined in working with the student, considering the student’s age and health, wellbeing and safety concerns” (pg. 34).
2. Students can choose their bathrooms and changing facilities: “Students must have access to the restroom/changing facilities that correspond to their gender identity” (pg. 42).
3. CMS will remove some gender-based activities: “CMS will evaluate all gender-based activities; maintain only those that have clear and sound pedagogical purpose” (pg. 46).

Liberals wanted U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps to give up the honor of carrying the American flag and leading his country’s athletes at the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympic games Friday night.
He’s the wrong color and the wrong sex.
After Phelps was chosen by his fellow Olympians, the U.S. Olympic Team tweeted:
But coming in a close second to Phelps in the team’s vote was Ibtihaj Muhammad, a woman, an African-American and a Muslim to boot.
What could be better, some thought. Diversity, you know.
Leading the pack of naysayers was W. Kamau Bell, host of CNN’s “United Shades of America.” In a CNN op-ed, he described the swimming sensation as a “tall, successful, rich white guy” who clearly didn’t “need the honor.”
“With 22 Olympic medals, you are already the most decorated athlete in Olympic history,” he said.
But American fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad is a different story.
“Muhammad carrying the flag would be much bigger than your one moment,” Bell writes. “It would be a symbol for our country in this moment when we are mostly known for one of the most contentious, controversial, scandal-ridden, hateful, xenophobic, jingoistic, and just generally unlikable presidential elections in recent memory. This is at a time when we could use some more symbols of unity and togetherness.”

Boy, 13, drove drunk with drunken grandma in back


SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico deputies say a traffic stop yielded a surprising find: a drunken 13-year-old boy behind the wheel and the child’s intoxicated grandmother riding in the back.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports Santa Fe Deputy Clay Cullison stopped the pair Thursday after spotting a blue 1994 Oldsmobile weaving.

Ohio Man Arrested After Trying To Have Sex With A Van

DAYTON, Ohio (KDKA) – Ohio officers arrested a man after a witness said she saw him trying to have sex with a parked van.

Affiliate WDTN reports that officers were called to St. Nicholas Street around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday on a report that a man was pulling his pants down and swinging on a stop sign.
According to a police reporter, a witness told officers that she saw the man stand near a parked van, pulls his shorts down, and place his genitals in the front grill of the van.
The witness said the man did this for a while then appeared to pass out in a nearby yard, so she called police.
When officers reportedly arrived they found the man walking around wearing black gym shorts and shoes.
The suspect was later identified as Michael Henson and officers say he appeared to be intoxicated.
Officers put him in the back of a police car and spoke with the woman who called police.


Henson was arrested for public indecency and is now in the Montgomery County jail.

Baltimore Votes To Keep Schools Open On Muslim Holidays

The Baltimore County Board of Education on Tuesday voted 6-5 against closing schools for two Muslim holidays when they fall on school days.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Muslim community had advocated for more than a decade to close Baltimore schools on the Islamic holidays of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.
The vote followed a heated discussion among school board members as dozens of Muslims waited in the audience. The results of the vote prompted shouts of “Injustice!” by some in attendance, and the board had to call a five-minute recess before continuing. …

Michigan Restaurant Admits to Recycling Old Chips and Salsa

A Mexican restaurant in Michigan is under investigation by local health officials after a former waitress accused the eatery of routinely reserving food to customers.
On Aug. 23, Kristie Bowie, who says she is the mother of a 16-year-old former server, posted on Facebook that her daughter had been ordered not to throw away salsa, chips or any food items that appeared untouched, even if they had been previously served to customers.

Teen killed father, hid body before installing stripper pole and hosting parties in home

MAGGIE VALLEY, N.C. (WCMH) — A North Carolina woman now faces murder charges in the 2014 death of her father.
Police say Crystal Brooke Howell, now 20, admitted she killed her father when she was 17. She pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and multiple other charges.
Howell told police she shot her father in the head with a shotgun while he was taking a nap and then hid his body for a month inside a plastic container, WYFF-TV reports. Howell then began hosting parties at the home while her father’s body was hidden away in a storage shed.
“Miss Howell had previously told her friends that her father had killed himself,” Assistant District Attorney Jeff Jones said. “She then started to drive his car and spend his money. She had her friends move in, had a drug-fueled party and even had a stripper pole installed in the kitchen.”
Crystal Howell’s attorney told WYFF-TV her client had a mental-health history.
“The evidence in this case is that Miss Howell, who had just been caught shoplifting at Ingles by her father that day, came home and thought about killing her dad while she showered,” Jones said. “Afterwards, she executed him while he slept on the couch.”
“It’s shocking that a young woman kills her father,” District Attorney Ashley Welch said. “But the fact that Howell then began to spend her father’s money, use his house and drive his car – all after hiding his body and the evidence of her crime – that’s the motive. She wanted to live on her terms at the expense of Michael Howell’s life. It’s very sad.”

Howell must serve a minimum of 30 years in prison before she’ll be eligible for parole.

Duke University Launches A New Program For Male Feminists

Keeping up with the modern times and embracing the ever-growing movement of feminism, Duke University announced it will be launching a new initiative targeted specifically at men feminists.
Crafter together with the university’s Women’s Center, the Duke Men’s Project is a nine-week long storytelling program that aims to “create a space of brotherhood fellowship dedicated to interrogating male privilege and patriarchy.”
Talking to Broadly about their new voluntary program, Duke’s executive director of news and communication, Keith Lawrence, explained:
“Men who sign up for this program can explore concepts of masculinity and how those concepts influence the world around them.
The program is similar to ones on many college campuses that offer opportunities for students to explore issues related to masculinity.”
Aiming to deconstruct toxic masculinity According to Duke Chronicle op-ed, the Duke Men’s Project will encourage participants to “critique and analyze their own toxic masculinities” in order to create a healthier outlook.
Toxic masculinity is often described the “socially-constructed attitude” that sees the masculine gender as violent, aggressive, seeking control. The manifestations of toxic masculinity include rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence against women, gun violence, etc.
Per Broadly’s interview with a masculinity scholar and sociology professor Tristan Bridges, “while women do suffer from the results of so-called toxic masculinity, the victims who often go unnoticed are men themselves.”
