Police say the officer was trying to get the raccoon off him when he shot himself. The officer was taken to the hospital and police say the injuries are not life-threatening.

ABC7's Q McCray reports neighbors say they heard nine gunshots and that the officer was flown to the hospital.

British tourist 'gang-raped in Dubai' faces jail for extra-marital sex

A British tourist who was allegedly gang-raped in Dubai has been charged by police for having extra-marital sex.

The 25-year-old reported her alleged ordeal at the hands of two men to local police but was then locked up and charged, The Sun reported.

It is feared the woman, who has since been bailed, could be given a long prison sentence after breaking the United Arab Emirates’ strict laws.

Meanwhile her alleged attackers, both from the UK, have been allowed to return home.

The pair filmed their hotel room attack on mobile phones, it is claimed.

Woman Claims Defective Chinese Dry Wall Killed Husband
                  NBC Miami ^ |

A South Florida woman says her husband paid the ultimate price for having defective Chinese dry wall in their home.
"He was perfect, lungs, everything. No illness at all and in October of that year he was diagnosed with stage four cancer," Adriana Grillet said of her husband, Juan Merino.
The family lived in a high rise building off Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura for about a year. Just nine months after he was diagnosed, Merino was dead. On Wednesday, Grillet was in court forging ahead with her claim that even though her husband asked, they were told there wasn't Chinese dry wall in the unit they were going to rent. She says that turned out to be untrue and it cost him his life.
"He was my best friend. He was my love," Grillet said.
She's now suing those operating the building and a company that did testing for Chinese dry wall. All of them deny her allegations that they had anything to do with Merino's death.
The attorney for the property management group, Esq. Momentis Property Group, indicated there's no evidence to show any toxins were in the unit when the couple was there that could have caused Merino's fatal lung cancer.
"We sympathize that Mr. Merino passed away from cancer. But the point is what was the cause of it and we have to look at that from a scientific standpoint," attorney Jeff Paskert said in court. "What they are not going to be able to show you is that a carcinogen, sulfuric acid mist, was present in any dose that exposed anybody in that condominium unit."
But Grillet says her husband, who had asthma, specifically asked before moving in if Chinese dry wall was present.
"He wouldn't sign any paper, any lease, if he doesn't have a serious study that was no Chinese dry wall," Grillet said.
Her attorney produced a lease which reads, in part: "the landlord had an inspection done...conditions in the unit from the wall board do not appear to present a health risk." "He was given a report that says 'we can't detect any of these gases in your apartment and we believe living in the apartment poses no health risks' when in fact the first draft of the thing said we should warn people that they could get sick," attorney Richard Burton said.
After moving, she says other experts tested again.
"The study says that the apartment had 99 percent Chinese dry wall," Grillet said. That's why the woman is claiming the building and the testing company are responsible for what happened. The attorney for the property group also said that this all happened in such a short time window that Merino could have had the lung cancer before ever moving in.
The case still has a way to go in court but its the first case with Chinese Dry wall that doesn't address fixing up a property but someone dying over what happening with the defective dry wall.

I had to turn it off at about 2 minutes. What a lame excuse for a human being.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Woman Hides Lighter in Roll of Fat, Lights Roll of Toilet Paper on Fire, Smokes Out Holding Cell
                            WJHG ^ |

A woman in a booking facility at the Okaloosa County Extension building is charged with arson after she lit a roll of toilet paper on fire with a lighter she had hidden in a fold of body fat.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year old Amber Koestler on December 5th after her girlfriend said Koestler had struck her at a home on Scranton Street near Fort Walton Beach.
Deputies say as they were heading to the booking facility on Lewis Turner Boulevard, Koestler was combative, punching and kicking the door inside the patrol car. She got out of her handcuffs and when deputies opened the door to restrain her, grabbed the cuffs as if to use them as a weapon. A taser was deployed, however was not effective since one probe did not make contact. Deputies reapplied the handcuffs but Koestler continued to be combative at the booking facility and attempted to bite a deputy. She was then escorted to a holding cell.
A short time later deputies smelled smoke and thought it could be the result of an electrical fire. They began to evacuate the prisoners. They discovered Koestler had set a roll of toilet paper on fire inside her holding cell. Video surveillance revealed Koestler had concealed a lighter in a roll of body fat in her buttocks. She retrieved it and then used the lighter to start the fire. No one was injured.
Koestler is charged with felony domestic battery, resisting arrest, and arson.

More men need to talk about consent: Rape culture is ingrained in masculinity
                              UMass Daily Collegian

It was like any other Friday night surrounded by my friends. We were drinking, playing games and enjoying each other’s company. One of my friends, “Debra”, was there, who uses they/them pronouns and identifies as a lesbian. We’ve gotten to know each other over the past year through mutual friend groups. We were flirting throughout the night, and once everyone left, we started to hook up. Things were going well, I thought, but we stopped. I then saw something was wrong, but never expected them to say, “Don’t ever take advantage of me again.”
I apologized and panicked because I didn’t know I took advantage of them. This had never happened to me before. I walked home feeling awful and overwhelmed by my thoughts. Where did I go wrong? What could I have done differently? I didn’t know, and that was my problem. It showed me firsthand how rape culture (a complex set of beliefs that encourage male sexual aggression and supports violence against women) was firmly ingrained in my masculinity. In other words, the way that I and other men were taught to perform our sexuality was violent and normalized.
At first, I got defensive. “Physical consent was established,” I thought, but somewhere along the way consent was lost. I reached out to Debra a few days later to gain an understanding of how I hurt them. They said they first wanted to hook up, but didn’t after we started. Once our conversation ended, I wondered why they didn’t say “no” or “stop” or “I don’t want to do this anymore.” I found myself blaming them rather than holding myself responsible. And what if they tried, and I didn’t know? I was acting like the men “who are performing equality so strongly that they don’t practice justice; who expect you to speak up, but who never ask.”
Ashamed, I had a lot of trouble reaching out to my friends for support. I feared that they would either dismiss what I told them by calling Debra “crazy” or refusing to engage with me for being problematic. It was very clear to me how we, as men, fear being vulnerable and channel that fear to dehumanize people with labels like “crazy”, “irrational” or “bitch.” Eventually I opened up and to my surprise was met with a lot of understanding and empathy. It was liberating because it made me realize how little compassion I had for myself. I wasn’t judged for my actions, but my friends told me where I was wrong and what I could do to hold myself accountable.
I want to use my experience to inspire other men to communicate. Not only with our partners, but with ourselves and each other. It was my miscommunication that cost me a friendship, but once I shared with my friends what happened I learned what I could do better next time.
Men, consent should always be vocalized because physical cues are hard to interpret and even harder when you’re drunk. Communication isn’t clear if both parties are intoxicated, and a lack of no is not a yes. Check in with your partner as things are getting physical and open lines of communication, especially when alcohol is involved. Establishing this comfort allows your partner to feel safer speaking up and saying “no.”
When women are being attacked for rejecting men, it shouldn’t be surprising why this fear is valid. Sexuality can be fluid, but I made the mistake to assume that everything that was happening was okay or that my partner would speak up if I was out of line. Check in with someone if they’re questioning their sexuality. They may believe they want to hook up, but could feel differently once things get intimate.
Rape culture needs to be addressed within our communities, in our friend groups and with our fathers, especially when we have an accused rapist becoming the president of the United States. Especially when masculinity is toxic and fragile. Men should talk with one another when we’re confused, ashamed or scared. We are drowning in the false notions of what it means to be a man and I don’t want to drown anymore. We shouldn’t rely on the emotional labor of women or non-binary to validate us, but rather be more sensitive with one another. We should learn together and work toward our liberation. We should help each other by engaging in more critical dialogues and leaning into this discomfort together.

Homemade Guillotine Test Ends in Hilarious Mishap
                                UPI ^

A Texas YouTuber testing out a homemade guillotine on a can of spray paint recorded the moment the test went almost according to plan. The video, uploaded to YouTube by user Destruction Channel, featured a member of the channel's team testing out the guillotine they built for their video experiments.
The man makes the guillotine's blade fall onto a can of spray paint, causing it to burst open.
The test appears to have gone according to plan, but the can of spray paint ends up launched right toward the man -- and strikes him in the groin.
"Not fatal, but incredibly painful accident," the video's description reads.
