    Cock Sparrer=awesome old punk

I know there are a lot of metal-heads on here, and I dig some black metal like Emperor and stuff. But I cut my guitar-teeth as a kid playing music inspired by Black Flag and the like. I don't know why it took me so long to actually hear Cock Sparrer. These Brits are probably one of the most influential and under appreciated punk bands in music history. Apparently they're still rocking live shows, they're probably my dad's age. Their music sounds innocent by today's standards. Some stand-out tracks from Bloody Minded: The Best of Cock Sparrer are 'A.U.', 'Tough Guys' and 'Bird Trouble'. It's great strong-portion-in-the-morning-shower music.

At the very least, these guys deserve props for still rocking when many of their peers ended their careers with overdoses or bad livers.

I'm really into British punk, crust, and anarcho. Some of my favorite bands are Doom, Crass (I even have the Reality Asylum tattoo), Chaos UK (their early fast stuff), Disorder, Flux of Pink Indians, Extreme Noise Terror, and of course Amebix.

I love Black Flag. I saw Henry Rollins on his Provoked With spoken word tour. He's a funny guy (but also crazy, especially when he was younger, according to a lot of my friends that are 40+).

Yeah, I've seen Rollins do spoken word twice in Seattle, he's a nutjob but seems like a good guy. Most of the guys I grew up playing music with are a bit older than me and exposed me to lots of crusty house shows and Britpunk and So-Cal hardore and stuff like Dystopia and all the profane existence bands. Now I'm just a Neurosis fanboy...

My friend Dezmond grew up with Todd from Dystopia. I heard they are pretty cool guys. Have you heard their final S/T Lp yet? It's quite amazing.

Any bands that are on P/E are really good. I see Appellation Terror Unit whenever they play in Cincinnati.

Neurosis is awesome, but I detest their newer stuff that is slow noise. I'd have to say their Aberration ep is the best: fast, musical, and punk/metal as ****!

          Oh Man! Neurosis!

If you haven't heard "Given To the Rising", last year's full length check it out, no slow noise here. They may have lost favor with some older school fans by toning down the anger and confusion on "Through Silver in Blood" and doing "Eye of Every Storm" which is a boring concept-album to the ears of non dedicated fans. But "given" is a return to some speed and aggression. Those guys still know how to bring it live too, saw them again in February, one of their best sets out of the 12+ I've caught in 16 years! I'll have to pick up that final Dystopia, sounds great.
