    Windows 10 Disaster

Man I just downloaded the windows 10 update.....and it has completely fried my computer (which is less than a year old with all the latest specs)

I can only access safe mode and then very little works....been on the phone all day with tec support..... And I'm posting this from my phone...if that tells you anything

What a pain in the ass....their tec lines are flat jammed up...so it does not seem to be a limited problem....

The moral is......the rest of you might want to let them iron out the bugs before downloading
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

The bugs seem to be hit and miss from what I have read......rather than brand specific

I would love to be able to see what it does to any software.......as it stands now a software phuck up would be a huge step forward in the right direction

I will say this Windows 10 has fixed all the bitching about in windows 8......I'd be happy as a lark if I could get my system back to 8

There's a marketing strategy. .......respond to complaints about your crappy product by making the next one so bad people become happy with the first one

I just noticed this morning that there is a small click-on on my task bar to get Windows 10.......I don't plan to let invention be the mother of necessity any more than I have to, but I've been OK with Windows 2.2 thru Windows 7....let's face it, change is inevitable.....Did no one sign up for W 8.1?

True....but I would wait a bit until they work out all the kinks

For example......the problem that i am having is quite common.....along with the internet/wifi glitchiness and on and on.....the MS tec support called me today saying they have a patch for my problem that will be out Monday......

The point is.....I would let them get all this worked out and then do the upgrade in a month or so

Boot to a GNU/Linux live image. That'll get your computer running until you get a fix from MS.

Alright, I'm finally back up and running under Windows 8.1

I will give a step by step in case anyone else runs into the same issue. (I could not access anything on my computer. My desktop was blank (just the wallpaper). And it was blinking on and off)

What I did is basically three steps:
                            1) Get to safe Mode
                            2) Revert Back to Previous version of Windows
                            3) Change Update Settings

Here is how I did it
Step #1 (Getting to Safe Mode)
I was able to get into safe mode through the Task Manager (press "control-Alt-delete" all at once and it will give you an option to go to Task Manager)

In task manager select "More details" on the Bottom left of the box/screen

Go to "File" and select "Run new Task"

In the entry box type "msconfig" and hit "enter"

On the ensuing screen select the "Boot" tab at the top left of the box

Then select "Safe Mode" and under it "Network" (this will give you internet capability in safe mode)

Reboot and you will be in safe mode

Step #2 (Restore to previous Windows version)

From Safe Mode go to startup

                            Choose "settings"

                            Choose "Recovery"

Choose "restore to windows 8.1 (or your previous version)"

This will restore your computer without loss of files or programs.

                            Step #3 (Reset Windows Updates)
When you get back to 8.1 be sure to reset your Windows updates settings from "auto install" updates to "prompt before installing"....the reason is that the first thing my computer did once back to Windows 8 was to try and download windows 10 all over again. Now I have to OK the updates and there is no way in hell I am OKing 10

I hope this helps anyone who may run into the same issue.

Regardless......it is good to be back

                              One point of follow up.

Every time I reboot my computer.... Windows searches for updates

Every time it does so..... it lists Windows 10 update.

Here is the kicker.......even though I have selected "Prompt me before downloading and installing".....it will auto check the Windows 10 box (as if I had approved it) and proceed with the download

So far I have been at my computer and so i have been able to manually stop the download.....but one day I might not be......

This little trick by Microsoft is unacceptable. It is an utter disregard of my wishes and a blatant attempt to find a work around to them.

Simply put....it is tantamount to Microsoft hacking my computer agaist my will and should be considered a federal crime
