Cheap Cigarettes

While searching through the attic I came across a grocery store sales receipt from December 1986. Among other things, I had purchased a carton of unfiltered Pall Mall's and a carton of Newport 100's. Each carton was $9.55.

I was at the same store yesterday and now the cost is $62.07 per carton. That's a pretty big increase. When I stopped smoking in 2006 the price was about $26.00 a carton.

When I was in the Navy on a ship in 1985, the snack vending machines had packs of cigs, and they were .75 cents.

My best recollection was around $ 45 a carton in12' when I quit....so, about five to six cartons a month. I'm guessing my snus budget is about 1/4 of that.
