    An Observation

I've noticed something that I find interesting about us snusers.....

I smoked for 30 years, and over those years switch brands a few times. From Benson and Hedges to Winston's to Camels with a few in between, but each had a multi-year run.

I stuck with a brand for whatever reason and didn't stray. I never came to work with a pack of brand "A", "B" and "C", just brand "A".

However I've noticed that this doesn't seem to be the case with snusers. We all have our favorites, but most of us carry several brands and such with us. I now seem to bring in 3-4 can's - each different, but I was wondering why I seem to do that as I didn't do that with cigarettes...

This is just an observation with no real point, just something I noticed about myself and some of the forum members..

    So, what do you think?

I think it is related to the flavor. Although most people don't carry 3 or 4 brands of gum, so that argument might not fly.

I used to sometimes carry three kinds with me in a cigarette case: two different roll-ups and Marshall Mcgearty. Otherwise I'd just carry Camel Lights. I think it has to do with a more connoisseur approach to a product. For instance, when I was just smoking, I stuck with my brand. If I was enjoying the finer points of cigarette tobacco (kind of a contradiction now that I've tasted snus), it was variety that mattered. People do the same thing with pipe tobacco and hookah tobacco. Wine too.

I've become faithful to a brand of snus like I did when I smoked, although it took some months of experimenting with all sorts of brands to figure it out. The only difference is that when I smoked I didn't have one for home and one for work like I do with snus. I use two snuses, and dabble with a couple others on rare occasions.

I tend to agree with bmw; once I'd found the cigarette that I liked the tase of and one that didn't make me feel like crap, I stuck with it for over a decade [American Spirit Lights in the yellow box], I was fiercely loyal and would rather have not smoked than smoke a Marlboro or Camel. With snus, I'm totally open minded to trying everything I can get my hands on, even other smokeless tobacco. Airwoodstock was kind enough to send me some Tourney flavors from Illinois, in exchange for some Ozona snuffs I'd gotten and didn't like as well as Toque. I'm finding that for a Swedish-made American snus, tourney isn't half bad, the spearmint is especially good. As long as I have smokeless nictotine now, I don't really care too much where it comes from. And I like the fact that now I'm a non-smoker I can enjoy snus, and American smokeless even with a cold, like I'm fighting now.

I tend to switch my snus brands quite frequently. I love General Wintergreen portions for when I'm working, since it makes my breath smell good. However, when I'm drinking, I prefer to snus something that has a traditional tobacco flavor, like Nick and Johnny.

I find that week by week I grow closer to having A brand. Now, I doubt I'll snus General for 20 years exclusively, but I'm starting to prefer one can at a time.

OTOH, having a can of something sweet for the evening is nice too, it just tends to make that can last nearly a month. That's a habit I'm going to have to get out of.

Well, my thoughts on it are that I have heard Swedes will stick with one type and never try something else, so maybe this is just an "Americanization" of Snus.

Another point I mentioned in another post briefly is the problem I always had when switching brands of cigarettes (or for me, changing handrolling tobacco type, or even papers) was the oddball cough I would get. Sort of in the throat, mid way back or something. Odd. I'd switch and it would last a few days. Never failed to have that happen. I think cigarette smokers want to avoid that, so stick with a brand and type. I never get odd reactions like this when switching between snus types or brands or flavors.

The only other thought is the "wow - this is new" and how we approach it, then settle down to our favorite 1 or 2 and at most 3 mainstays.

                  These are my 2c.

Most of us with extensive variety of snus flavors are just trying them all to see what we like

When it came to cigs, I started out on non filter camels, then switched to camel filters, then camel lights, then marlboro lights, then marlboro ultra lights. See the progression? The more my lungs became trashed, the lighter a cig I smoked. Then 1 day I woke up and realized I was killing myself slowly. Dropped cigs entirely in early august this summer, haven't had the urge to start again. I did experiment recently to see what 1 was like and found it vile and disgusting, which is a good thing

I've smoked one or two here and there, but I went two weeks before trying a Camel Crush that my wife bought... I have to admit that it took me right back to my teenage days sneaking around smoking in the woods, attic, etc.

I won't say that it tasted good or bad, but it sure made me nostalgic... Of course when I was at a pack and a half a day it was nothing like that, and I plan to stay off the cigs and SnusOn!

I used to switch brands of cigarettes quite frequently. It's funny but it used to piss off one of my co-workers who thought I was a jackass for not sticking with one brand. Some people will only drink one brand of soda, one type of beer and scoff at people that like variety.

When I started smoking cigarettes when I was younger, I would always choose different brands to see what I liked the best. In my later smoking days, it was usually Winston because they were additive free and tasted decent.
