I agree, I'm 31 and was in middle school and high school back then, raised in a Seattle suburb. Most of us loved our local music, but there was nothing really 'Seattle Specific' about it, and I get what you're saying, Seattle, WA isn't known to be as culturally/politically/morally oppressive as a state like Iowa. It seems the term "grunge" caught on everywhere except Seattle, where local musicians and fans tended to avoid it, or snicker at the term.

Does no-one else here use last.fm?

I listen to all sorts of music. Recently I've been listening to The Yardbirds and Jeff Beck, but that's merely the tip of the iceberg.

Not really. I have tons of music that I own, and I'm not lacking much in the way of variety. I also have a subscription to Live365 where I can listen to fairly specific music types(old bigband remotes, saxophone, Hammond B3...)
