    First time in forum

Are there any cigarette smokers/ex cigarette smokers who have successfully quit by using snus? I am trying, and being more successful than I have been with NRT etc. I have a big order looming from northerner. I like Kronan as it is cheap. I smoked cheap cigs so figured cheap snus would work. Any recommendations for strong, fast acting snus would be much appreciated. Even the more expensive snus is cheaper than smoking in UK at £5 a pack! (9.47796 USD). I have only used portion snus so far. Would loose be better?
P.S. I'm learning Norwegian. Hallo to anyone from Norway.

I think a lot of people quit smoking by using snus, it's very effective. For snus varieties, in a large part the variety is more in flavour than in strength, although there are a few exceptios. Skruf Stark portions, for example, are unusually potent, but also cost twice as much as kronan for a tin. Loose can give you a bigger kick, but it's messier so not as suitable for a workplace that doesn't involve workboots or in other social situations.

    Welcome aboard!

      YES!
Check out this site for lots of tips on how to quit smoking by using smokeless tobacco.

It worked for my 93 year old great aunt, who had smoked since 1919, and she said it was "easy."
My only criticism of Dr. Rodu is he really likes Oliver Twist, which I think simply doesn't provide enough nicotine for most smokers. I started my aunt on Strongcut portions because she was a heavy smoker, but she soon switched to Goteborgs and that was her favorite after that.

Well, it was a little late for that! But she did enjoy getting her sense of taste back.

It's been almost 5 months since I have smoked (at all) and have been Snusing.

I would recommend a TRY-OUT package of Snus, which vary at a couple of sites that sell Snus.

Of course, you can make out your own selective 'try-out' order. Mine was the Swedish Match Snus Range Try-Out Box of portions, plus some others I selected individually.

            To use Snus as a Smoking Cessation Product, whether it is to cut-back on, and/or cut-out smoking, I would recommend you to start out on Mini White Portions... this will either eliminate, or decrease any need to exportate and/or swallow any moisture from the Snus which some people experience the first few weeks (a couple or so) of Snusing... what little juice one does get, the stomach can adjust to (like that of Chewing Gum) what is swallowed. The worst health concern I read is just an upset stomach (and that is possibly only in the beginning of Snusing);

Once you get accustomed the Mini White Portions, then try the Large White Portions, and perhaps at the same time, or a bit later, try the Original (Dark) Portions out. Ya see, Original/Dark Portions have a tendency to be more "drippy" in the mouth than the White Portions - that's why I don't recommend them to first time Snus Users whom are trying to cut-back on and/or cut-out smoking... unless they are in a position to carry a spit cup around in the beginning times of Snusing.

As for the ‘kick’, well, a person generally ABSORBS the same amount of nicotine as that of Cigarettes. See
            http://www.smokeless.org.nz/snus.htm
for some examples. Admittedly, if the Cigarettes you have been smoking are FULL FLAVORS, then you will no doubt want to start out on the LARGE WHITE PORTIONS. They generally have twice the Nicotine Content of Mini Portions, but since the LARGE portions are bigger in shape and form, the body absorbs about 2 ½ times more than that of the MINI portions. Of course, you can always put 2 Mini Portions in the mouth – one on each side of the mouth.

I would put off trying Loose Snus the first month or two. I waited about three.

It really isn't that Dr. Rodu 'likes' Oliver Twist - it just happens to be only one of the smokeless tobacco products he recommends for smokers as a smoking cessation product... his 'products' page seriously needs to be updated with Snus-selling sites like Northerner, Buysnus, Swedish Match and so on, because it is old and only gives a very limited selection of smokeless tobacco.

The Nicotine absorbed from Oliver Twist Bits are analogue with that of cigarettes - of course, over a period of time. For more info, see the FAQ at Oliver Twist's Web Site, http://www.oliver-twist.com/. I think they are pretty good to have in 'tobacco-free' places where you don't want to get caught with Snus (loose or portion) on your front teeth - of course, I either use a mini portion Snus, or hide the larger portion elsewhere in my mouth at times someone might spot it.

As for the Oliver Twist Chewing Bits, if you gently squeeze the bit between your teeth, they release a nice pleasant eye-opening and awakening buzz (the sense of well-being).

Thanx to everyone for the replies to my post. Have quit cigs totally now. Can't stand the smell anymore. Have got a fridge and freezer full of snus. 8) Much to my girlfriends disapproval. but she is happy that I don't stink of fags anymore. I have found that snus straight out of freezer is very nice. Keep on snusing and don't run out!

                    lol -

Good for you Jono, quitting smokes can be realy tough especially with no replacement. yeah, women are not usually a fan of anything that makes you spit, but my lady likes the fact that i am not smoking anymore and not dipping cope or skoal (because of the spit).

be sure to share you thoughts with us on what you are liking and disliking in the world of snus.

                    Peace,
                    Scott

Yep, I quit smoking by using snus. It's been about 5 months now, and I've smoked a few cigarettes in that time, but each has been merely a setback - not a faliure.

I found that 'normal' snus was enough to keep me happy - everywhere apart from in the pub. If you spend much time in pubs you'll know that the urge to smoke is so much stronger there than anywhere else, and if you're going to fail in your attempt then it's probably the pub that will prove your downfall.

So my solution was to take Skruf Stark portions to the pub. They're about the strongest you'll find, and capable of knocking you on your arse sometimes. If you're already pretty much as topped up with nicotine as it's possible t be without being sick, then you'll be less inclined to spark up.

It worked for me, and I've found that with time, the habit aspect of the desire to smoke has declined. So now I'm able to get by even in the pub with 'normal' snus, and just use the stark when I fancy it.

                      Good luck...

It's been about 5 months for me as well - has only used about 2 packs the month before. The hardest part for me has been the mornings - not having that cigarette with my cup of coffee.

For a weak now I'm using snus- befored I smoked around half a pack a day.
I did not have any problems with switching - no cigarette cravings- and now i use around 3-5 pouches a day.
